House Judiciary Chair Lindsey Graham (R-SC) offered some serious spin during his opening statement for the hearing on the Justice Department inspector general report on Wednesday, including targeting the media for not covering the inspector general’s report how he believes it should be covered.
During his opening statement on Wednesday, Graham lashed out…
Now was this a standard Graham lashing out, or a full on Brett Kavanaugh railing and spittle flying out the mouth kind of lashing. Does Lindsey like beer?
"How would you like to be on the receiving end of this,”
I’m pretty sure that standing on stage behind a podium with the cameras rolling as a POTUS candidate after your opponent’s and her party’s email servers have been hacked, and not only yelling that Russia should hack them more and release their emails, but also cryptically promising that you have surprise scandal dumps incoming, is a great way of announcing that you’d love to be the target of an FBI investigation.
It’d be easy to look for how much Graham loved surveillance before this, but he’d bark ‘whatabout’ like a hit dog and after a bit, we would be back to square one.
What tripe…this is a senator attempting to bully the media into lying about the report. He has the right wing media doing his (and the Republican party’s) bidding, lying about the report’s findings and ignoring that the report exonerates the justice system, and now he’s trying to browbeat the rest of the media into saying the same thing. It’s just astounding to listen to Republicans attempting to smear our justice system for their political gain, and attacking the media for telling the truth and laying the facts out.
Russia seized part of Ukraine. It’s damned near impossible to find Republicans especially inflamed or outraged over it.
If Russia had seized Wales do you think the GOP would be similarly unperturbed? Would it be OK with the GOP if Russian soldiers patrolled the streets of Lyon? If seemingly every goddamned person in Trump’s campaign was talking to Russians and soliciting their help while a couple Russian divisions were encamped in Rome would these goddamned GOP Senators be as fricking obtuse as they are today?
“… How would you like this to happen in your life? How would you like to be on the receiving end of this,” Graham said with an oddly impassioned defense of Page. “To our people in the news business, how would you like this to be your news organization?”
I’m pretty sure that was less an “impassioned defense” of Page and more a thinly veiled threat to the media.
The GOP attacks. They always do. If what they call “appeal to compassion” is ordered by High Command, they will do it.
They are interested in amassing power and if a reporter or news service bites on this, they’ll check the “OK Box”. If browbeating works they’ll do that.
At some point, the people controlling Graham plan for what he is now doing not to be necessary at all.
The good thing here is that none of us fell for this at all. And, I suppose, this would fall on deaf ears elsewhere
I’m guessing the reporters who have to cover Trump’s mini-Nuremberg rallies when he gets the crowd of MAGA-ts riled up at the media and chanting CNN sucks and flipping the bird to photographers and requiring some news organizations to hire security guards for their people could probably tell you, Lin.
Did the Senate GOP trade him for Gym Jordan or for a future draft choice?
“A few irregularities. How would you like this to happen in your life? How would you like to be on the receiving end of this,”
Quite a double standard. The entire country has been on the receiving end of more than just “a few irregularities” since January 20, 2017 and Lindsey defends every bit of it.
“A few irregularities. How would you like this to happen in your life? How would you like to be on the receiving end of this,” Graham said with an oddly impassioned defense of Page. “To our people in the news business, how would you like this to be your news organization?”
I think most journalists who are paying even the slightest bit of attention will assume that they’re being surveilled. The only question is, by how many distinct entities?
