Graham Says He Consoled Trump | Talking Points Memo

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) says he threw his support behind President Trump as the House debated articles of impeachment against the President Wednesday.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://talkingpointsmemo.com/?p=1269195

Graham told the Times then that he warned Trump in a phone call against seeking a post-impeachment payback, and instead suggested him to ā€œget back to being President and have a good story to tell.ā€

.
Seems legit

ā€œListen, when you look at the last week, you’ve accomplished some things that would be a great year for any normal president,ā€ Graham said…

Graham cited Trump’s success in packing the courts with his appointees.

ā€œSo Mr. President, you’ve got a lot to be proud of,ā€ Graham said. ā€œTake your case to the American people. But if you get a second term, I think that says a lot about the impeachment process.ā€

You bloody, southern fried idiot. That wasn’t Trump. That was #ditchMoscowMitch.

Every time I read about Graham, I remember how great it feels to contribute to Jaime Harrison’s campaign.

Graham is such a hypocritical sycophantic lapdog, I have run out of words. So I will remind you of his:

1 / Trump is … ā€œa race-baiting, xenophobic, religious bigot. He doesn’t represent my party. He doesn’t represent the values that the men and women who wear the uniform are fighting for.ā€

2 / ā€œDonald Trump is not a conservative Republican. He’s an opportunist. He’s not fit to be president of the United States.ā€

Defending white supremacy, putting kids in cages, Muslim ban. All things despicable.

I can see where Graham would say that, since he’s a despicable human being himself.

ā€œSo Mr. President, you’ve got a lot to be proud of,ā€ Graham said.

ā€œThat inauguration crowd … biggest ever.
The mounting federal deficits and debt due to the tax cuts for the rich and corporations … incredible.
Stealing money appropriated for the military, including for schools on military bases, to build your stupid wall … stroke of stable genius.
The corruption and criminality … who could top that?
Being considered a fucking moron … the biggest ever.ā€

Consoled?

Not that there’s anything right with that…

I find his tweets today to be rather cathartic. He ain’t doing victory laps at his almost assured acquittal in the Senate. It’s nice.

With the NBC/WSJ poll, the final numbers on impeachment are in:

Since Pelosi’s declaration 84% Dems, 43% Indies and 10% of Republicans support impeachment.

Overall, it’s 48% in favor, 43% opposed.

These are very strong numbers. What makes them even stronger is that the polls mix questions asking about ā€˜impeachment inquiry’ vs. ā€˜impeach’ vs ā€˜impeach/remove’. If you pulled these out (and I haven’t done so) you’d get inquiry in the high 50s, impeach in the low to mid 50s and impeach/remove in the 48-46 range. Impressive from the Dems. Very impressive. It’s a real life example of the Overton Window in action.
