Graham Avoids Engaging In Trump’s Bogus ‘Obamagate’ Conspiracy Theory

Senate Judiciary Committee chair Lindsey Graham (R-SC), one of President Donald Trump’s most stalwart allies, poured cold water on the idea of pursuing Trump’s baseless conspiracy theory about former President Barack Obama on Monday.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://talkingpointsmemo.com/?p=1308684

“I’m not anticipating calling President Obama,” Graham said.

Fellow Judiciary Committee member Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) also wasn’t sold on the idea.

“I understand why the President feels like he’s under assault,” he told Politico. “But I think we need to do our own independent investigation.

So is this a toddler stepping away from the parent? Or will this be another “watch what they do, not what they say” type of maneuver?

Obamagate is so yesterday. We’ll be on to some new freak-out today.

Trump is melting down, and Lady Lindsey is not interested in being part of that meld down. This, and his going after Kemp for re-opening Georgia show that Lady Lindsey feels the hot breath of a real challenge for his seat on the back of his neck.

Probably excites him, but he does not want to loose. Trying to hedge his bets.

When you’ve lost Miz Graham in supporting your latest fever-drenched conspiracy…

But Donnie will always have Yertle…

Not at all. It’s just Miz Linz wants to save all the stupidity for October.

He hasn’t shut the fuck up out of a sense of SHAME, that’s for damned sure.

Maybe, just maybe, Graham remembers these heartfelt sentiments when the Truth wasn’t so goldarned hard:

“Trump is a race-baiting, xenophobic, religious bigot. He doesn’t represent my party. He doesn’t represent the values that the men and women who wear the uniform are fighting for.”
and
“Donald Trump is not a conservative Republican. He’s an opportunist. He’s not fit to be president of the United States.”

I disagree, this is the smoldering fire of hate in Trump’s gut. Obama must pay for the sin of embarrassing Trump, however long it takes, and however many lives he must destroy.

I’m a little surprised he hasn’t jumped on this bandwagon. He’s never been known to defend President Obama from any attacks before. Maybe what he means he is that he won’t participate in this conspiracy theory…publicly. On a private basis, I suspect he says something quite different.

I just wonder when Yertle will drop him like a hot potato?
When Trump ran for election he had a couple of themes he used to gain a base and keep them. Now yes at the core it was racism and victimhood, but now Trump has become a one trick pony.

Yes this, Graham and Coryn are putting out there that they need to “do their independent investigation”, which is to try and show that they are “considering” the evidence, but then once they see how it polls they’ll jump.

Trump also accused Obama of committing “the biggest political crime in American history”…You know what the crime is. The crime is very obvious to everybody,” he told Rucker.

So it begins. We can expect Trump to get real ugly about Obama this week.

Trump is desperate to get traction with any shit he can think of to dirty Obama before Obama’s Saturday Commencement speech.

The one-hour special, “Graduate Together: America Honors the High School Class of 2020,” will air simultaneously on NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox on May 16 at 8 p.m. EDT.

Since it will be aired on networks across the board (also streaming on facebook, youtube and tik tok), it essentially amounts to a “National Address”.

We know this irks Trump to no end.

In my most fervent fantasy - they call on Obama to ‘testify’.

And he feels free to talk.

About. Everything.

I don’t think they want that.

I don’t think they can handle the truth. Turtle doesn’t want Obama to take the gloves off.

Wait until Trump shows them the whip… Hannity, Ingraham and Carlson will start calling for investigations and this guys are going to bend backwards to oblige, based on past form, they will have a change of heart before the week is over.

Yep, a lynching party shows at the wrong house, but the Sheriff wants to be fair and only one member has been charged.

Pender County resident Austin Wood, who is accused of carrying a gun in the mob, is charged with going armed to the terror of the public, the police said.

I guess going unarmed to the terror of the public is kosher, and no a rope is not an “weapon”.
