With just two days left to go before the Senate impeachment trial kicks off, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) isn’t optimistic about his initial plan for a pre-Senate trial dismissal.
Any day one of Graham’s ideas dies is a good day, no doubt.

They never allowed the President to exercise executive privilege and when he suggested he might, the impeached him for obstructing Congress.
There’s a slight problem with Graham’s narrative. Trump told Pompeo, Mulvaney, et al., not to appear. If there is no witness then there is no need to assert executive privilege. The obstruction was in withholding witnesses and documents, not in censoring their testimony.
Lindsey your are as manly as Trump making such a hard decision all on your own.

No, it’s dead for POLITICAL reasons, 100%. If they thought they could get away with this and not endanger a single GOP seat, they’d do it in a heartbeat, but they know that they can’t, so they won’t.
Now their challenge is how to not call witnesses in a way that makes it seem like they want to call witness but somehow oh gee willikers they can’t, so they don’t have to actually call witnesses, which they know would make things SO much harder for them and Trump politically. But without a politically convincing way to get out of calling witnesses, they’re in trouble too.
