Governors and mayors throughout the country expressed on Sunday that they aren’t on the same page as President Trump when it comes to reopening the economy, given how the country continues to grapple with the world’s largest COVID-19 outbreak.
After saying that setting a timeline for reopening the economy will be “the biggest decision” he’s ever had to make, Trump announced that he would form a task force designed to develop a plan for it while also vowing to “certainly listen” to public health experts before officially coming to a decision.
That’s so cute!
He thinks he gets to tell governors and mayors what to do.
(It’s gonna be fun to watch when they just flip him off and continue…you know…governing.)
In other words, the entire society or at least the sensible majority understands it need pay no attention to the gibbering lunatic in the White House and has to keep on with the necessary work of staying safe and taking care of each other without the federal government’s help until we’re through this thing.
It’s well past time for this country to stop lionizing ‘business.’
Economic activity is part of society. Society is made up of people and is expressed through their interactions. If those people are dead, regardless of the profits they create, they’re no longer benefiting from business.
The only way ‘business’ benefits from death is when the term is used as a stand in for the owners; and, yes, the owners of many businesses have benefited from the early deaths of their work force for centuries (coal and asbestos mining are two easy examples.)
If that’s what we want, the sacrifice of our lives for an owning class’s profit, let’s say it and not hide it behind abstractions.
It’s actually interesting that the Swedes are saying whatever the Swedish is for Que sera, sera. Just live like normal and see how it goes. I would not have imagined their taking that approach, but live and learn. As they will.
Seriously, he’s got a tweet today showing he’s aware of all the pieces saying he sucked his thumb for more than two months while we could have been preparing. If he understands that he’s being blamed for sitting and doing nothing while mass death and economic ruination became ever more certain, that’s going to be psychologically devastating for him.
They’d also say who could blame him for being under stress, the way the libs blame him for every little thing. They said that about Palin when she’d be extra kooky. I have an excellent memory for stuff like that.
