Gov’t Watchdogs To Investigate Capitol Police, Potential Congressional Role In Attack | Talking Points Memo

And its strength is EXACTLY that it doesn’t have that power. That’s the point, right? No skin in the game. I worked for a sister congressional agency for years, so yeah, that’s what independent oversight means.

Like the CBO and other congressional agencies (CRS) GAO’s credibility rests on its independence. It is pretty damn good at preserving that.

You can back Trump but not when he veers over into sedition.

Two federal watchdogs are opening investigations into last week’s breach of the Capitol — including one looking at the potential involvement of Republican legislators.

I hope they are also investigating presidential involvement, specifically direct involvement beyond incitement, like intentionally undermining police preparedness.

Yes, but reckless gangsters. Just can’t find a prudent gangster these days.

Yea, that would do it. But the thing is, he was watching what he intentionally caused and helped engineer, delighting in it. This goes beyond forfeiting any right to remain president, and demands he serve out the rest of his rotten life behind bars. Bill Kristol is not a bright one, and remains bullish about lying the country into George W. Bush’s Iraq war

Mr. Trump, I pity the fools that helped you.

Is she the one with the um blonde hair or the one with the long, dark hair?

Biden will be inaugurated. The military has said so. SCOTUS has said so by refusing to hear any of Trump’s cases. The Majority Leader and Speaker have said so. Even Trump isn’t claiming he can stop Joe’s inauguration anymore. So, where are you getting this?

That is an insane plan. I believe you, I just don’t see how that makes Trump president next week. King maybe if he can hold power by force, but not president.

And if he wants to be king, Why fuss over an election? Kings aren’t elected.

Hitler’s Brownshirts (Sturmabteilung – SA) were effective as a private army because at the time there was no effective German army, it having been severely restricted by the Treaty of Versailles. The SA was able to intimidate political opponents without hindrance.

By contrast, the US has a highly trained and efficient military. Its leaders have already announced that it will be true to its oath to protect the Constitution. Trump’s army is severely outmanned and outgunned. Trump’s army will not be able to overthrow the government and install Trump as dictator.

Mitch said that is off.

Great piece. And VERY important regarding the Christian right and their thirst for power over us all.

10-15 -20 years ago & more There were tons of business in the New York area who absolutely would not work with - buy from - sell to … what ever … deal in any way with TRUMP - pure thieves and scoundrels … The bastard is like the crook who sells used cars that have been in salt water floods - just absolute scum … and what and how the rest of the country fell for in him is just crazy - some fell in love with his BS and his promises. Others schemed that they could zoom to wealth and prosperity by grabbing on to his coattails - but all who compromised themselves to grab a piece of his aura - sold a piece of their soul… and sold a piece of America’s soul.
really have nothing but pity for them … they let go of integrity for Fool’s gold…the let their inner ugliness out to roam free because he encouraged it … and many will never be the same …

If only that were an option.
Perhaps instead of cursing me out, you can help me see where I am wrong:

On 06JAN the President led an insurrection to disrupt if not eliminate the legislative branch and halt the certification of Joe Biden as President.
The mob attack appeared to be spontaneous but now we have learned that that spontaneity was cover for a highly coordinated effort by highly trained, well equipped operatives with an intimate knowledge of the premises and the expected locations of human targets (Democrats).
How did they get such information? Well, according to Democratic Congress person Mikie Sherrill ( A military intelligence veteran, who is joined in her observations by 2 other former military/CIA vet Congress members) they performed a reconnaissance of the building the day before under the guidance of Republican members of Congress.. That’s right. Democratic members of Congress, trained in a former career to notice these things, accuse Republican members of Congress of participating in a terror plot against Congress.

Yesterday, Mitch McConnell was widely reported to be open to impeachment and to have the votes in his caucus to remove Trump. Today, abruptly, he says ‘nevermind’.. This decision comes at the same time that a member of Congress reports that many of his colleagues would like to vote for impeachment, but will not because they have been threatened with death.

We read articles every day about the legal and financial peril Trump faces when out of office. I am sure he reads them too (or they are read to him). These Congress members who have participated in a plot against the United States face the potential of long prison terms, if not death. The ex-military (active?), cops, militia, etc that were part of the plot are still free and still with Trump.

These are people with nothing to lose and everything to gain. And in Trumps case, at least, no other options.

Too hell with Josh Hawley’s rage. No one ever interviews me about my rage. I will go to any diner I find open if the NYT will meet me there.
