To take Justice Neil Gorsuch at his word, the Supreme Court’s consideration of Moore v. United States Tuesday was littered with landmines and replete with the threat of an avaricious Congress targeting regular people’s savings as a tax windfall.
Few of them can hear this case while there is a question of the impact of those of wealth on the decisions of the court.
Feel free to step down, Kavanaugh of the whodunnit sudden $250k credit card repayments. Also Alito of the fabulous fishing at the expense of someone guaranteed to profit from this decision. Ditto, Truckin’ Clarence Thomas, in straight receipt of cash money. And maybe throw in Roberts for his prima facie tosh now guaranteeing the wealth of those he granted unlimited power in our government.
Johnny the Robber Baron and his 5 Operatives want to go back to the Lochner era so bad they can barely contain themselves. Problem is the majority of the Country wants to tax the sh-t out of the cheap labor bast-rds. A dilemma.
And thus continues the trampling of every prior held jurisprudential shibboleth by these reactionary revanchist radical unelected politicians. Judicial restraint? Pshaw. Case or controversy? Huh? Standing? No longer necessary. Ruling on the narrowest grounds possible? For suckers. Considering hypotheticals not in evidence? Icing on the cake.
If the court fails to heed Gorsuch’s prescient warning, literally tens of non-billionaires are at risk of paying a marginal amount of tax on their Cayman Island deposits!
Gorsuch served as the tip of the spear for the right-wing justices
How nice for the fascists on the court that they have such a deep bench (pun intended) of ideological assholes available to serve as the tip of the spear on any given case.
This scotus can always be relied upon to protect the interests of those citizens who count. They should include the following disclaimer on all of their ideologically driven decisions - ‘Caution, our assholes are even larger than they appear.’
On the New Yorker podcast today I heard Jill Lepore say that because our Constitution is essentially immutable now, the big things that really need to be changed like the Senate and the EC can not and will not be changed. She didn’t say we are doomed, but that is what I heard.
As I watch clowns like Gorsuch and Alito go to bat for the ultra rich from their positions of relative wealth, I get a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. People who have lived lives of privilege their entire lives should not be making decisions for the benefit of one percent of the population over the rest of us. It honestly stopped feeling like a democracy quite a while ago and we seem to be picking up speed as we careen downhill toward authoritarian autocracy.
I am really getting tired of all the PR bullshit that passes for news. Absolutely no shame on the part of any Republican. No accountability levied by the Press. There is zero adherence to trying to find out the truth on the part of the press. You lie and we report without telling anyone you are lying.
We live in a consumer society. If consumers don’t have money to buy stuff the economy doesn’t function. Why in the name of God would any government want to reduce retired people to poverty? That would mean fewer consumers could buy shit which would mean the economy would schrink and the rich people would ultimately have to eat cheaper cuts of meat.
That Gorsuch fears the Democrats want to steal the savings of middle class or rich people tells you all you need to know about how brainwashed Gorsuch is. If he isn’t brainwashed he is just too stupid to sit on the Supreme Court.
The consumer society idea is going to get worse as labor is replaced by automation. To make the society hum we need to get more spending power into more hands. A few rich people don’t buy enough shit to keep the machines running. Government’s job these days is to make sure more people have more money in their hands to buy the stuff churning out of our automated factories.
Pardon Mr Gorsuch but the money in my bank accounts has had full income tax paid. And double taxation would certainly not go over well at all… even among your filthy rich friends.
What do you think the coded message of “originalist” means? That the landed white men who founded this country were “originally” the only ones in charge, and it’s the court’s job to restore that primacy while handing over every tax break they demand, eliminating agencies they don’t want to pay for and crushing every regulation that might get in their way.
