Here’s an example of the kind of compromise included in the Senate’s updated crypto bill. After bipartisan negotiations this month, the GENIUS Act will now ban stablecoins from using “United States,” “United States Government,” or “USG” in their name. In some ways, it’s important: stablecoins, typically used to purchase other, more volatile forms of cryptocurrency,…
“At the same event, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), the first Democrat to co-sponsor the bill, replied to a question about Trump’s corruption by noting that the stablecoin law would apply to him, as well.”
I already thought she was dumb and weak and lame, but omfg. “The bill I support making bribery legal applies to President Trump too, guys.” Her idiocy approaches (negative) sublimity. One is in awe.
Crypto! Hunh!
What is it good for? Absolutely nuthin!
Say it again!
Apologies to Edwin Starr
My hope was when the crypto scam eventually crashes it won’t take down my retirement accounts and essentially the US and world economies. I no longer have this hope. It’s a big beautiful scam.
Any Democrat that supports this bill is simply declaring that they are “with the billionaires”… Fuck the regular Americans.
I can understand a Wall Street-owned idiot like Gillibrand, but Warner? He was very good on the Russian collusion issue, but this?
The principal collusion I see now is Democrats colluding with a dictator.
Ugh. Alsobrooks is my senator. She is a former prosecutor, so she should be well aware of the criminal activities that go along with crypto. I wrote and called her office about it.
Crypto… get yer non money here. Jest shove real bills inna slot & kissit goodbye
Sure, he’d never break your “stablecoin” law – for fear of the consequences.
What part of SCOTUS giving absolute immunity to a President does she not understand?
What part doesn’t Gillebrand understand? How does that Sinclair Lewis quote go? No one is harder to explain something to than a person whose paycheck depends on them not understanding it? How many chances have we had since Franken to primary her?
" Senate Majority Leader John Thune (S-ND), said on Monday " … (S-ND) ? Did Thune jump states and party overnight ? And a socialist to boot ? Last I heard he was a Republican from South Dakota. But I did nap this afternoon…
At the same event, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), the first Democrat to co-sponsor the bill, replied to a question about Trump’s corruption by noting that the stablecoin law would apply to him, as well.
“If some family member chooses to do so, or if [President Trump] chooses to do it in a blind trust, he is obligated to follow all the same rules as any other participant,” she said.
Is that what they told you, missy?
Stormtrooper?
Supremacist?
Spectacularly Seditious?
Crypto has NO special utility except for illicit drug dealers and other other criminals who want to hide their transactions. Otherwise, it is simply a horrible waste of electricity that adds nothing to overall economic growth.
That some Democrats support this shows that the party is split over resistance to Trump, the way the Whig Party was split over the issue of slavery.
And the Democrats may very well go the way of the Whig Party.
Below, a letter of mine to Mark Warner’s office. I would encourage any TPM reader resident in the state of Virginia to send a similar letter:
I have long been a supporter of Senator Warner. When he was ranking Democrat on the Intelligence Committee, his investigation of Trump’s collusion with Russia impressed me in particular.
But I have heard he will support a draft Republican bill legitimizing crypto currency. This is dangerous for several reasons:
FIRST, Crypto has NO special utility except for illicit drug dealers and other criminals who want to hide their transactions. Otherwise, it is a scam: a private, counterfeit currency that appeals to rightwing extremists the same way gold used to. It is a green light for Trump to further corrupt the office of the presidency.
SECOND, it is a horrible waste of electricity and an environmental disaster to mine crypto; crypto facilities in American towns are always a nuisance that strains the local power grid.
THIRD, crypto adds nothing to the economy, and could destabilize it and the dollar.
FOURTH, the supposed ethical restrictions in the bill that allegedly apply to Trump are a fraud. Which part of the corrupt Supreme Court’s decree granting Trump total immunity from all laws hasn’t Senator Warner heard about?
If Senator Warner votes for final passage of such a bill I will support any plausible Democratic primary challenger of his who may emerge. The senator must choose between the citizens of Virginia and billionaires.
Stupid Democrats. They insist on thinking the GOP and Trump are honest to some degreee, and represent their constituents in some way.
Idiots. No votes for felonious Trump, no votes for oath breaker trump and his party.
Jeebus, how effing dense do they have to be. Hang together or hang separately, you fools.
