GOP Senators Huddled With Trump’s Lawyers On Eve Of Impeachment Defense | Talking Points Memo

Three Republican senators met with the legal defense team for former President Donald Trump in advance of the lawyers’ presentation of their arguments to counter the charge that the ex-president incited an insurrection on the Capitol last month, according to multiple reports.

GOP Senators Huddled With Trump’s Lawyers

Huddle is a good verb to use there.

Comes from an old word meaning hide or conceal.

The term “Fuckers” comes to mind. But you know they were outraged to hear those words a month ago. Handled properly, this sets the stage for some interesting votes by the Dem majority to remedy these GQP senators (faithless to their oath and impartiality.) This could be seen as GQP corruption and pandering to the militia “base.” The brazen-ness seems to communicate “swagger” to the base? the coup complete as the US Senate aligns with insurrectionists and Russian-directed attacks on our system? Please no Intel briefings for Mango-lini. Also as Cruz, as a juror, chooses to set his own law and not follow the law? Why didn’t the GQP consult with prosecution? Ex parte communications a problem? Let’s impeach the GQP for infidelity to their official oath. @CaptainObvious where are you?

Had to make sure the fix was still in.

But anyone — anyone! — who suggests Mike Lee & Tommy “Yes I’m an Adult Male Who Goes By Tommy” Tuberville are phone buddies is a scurrilous liar!

Did not each senator just take an oath to serve “impartial justice” as a juror in the Senate trial? Oh, I forgot. Republicans can cross their fingers and “get a mulligan” whenever they want because they are special. The Republican Party died and is now a zombie tribe.

Reports to the contrary:

Republicans cannot run away quietly and hope that all are forgiven. They screamed that no one wants to listen to them, so here’s their chance.

To paraphrase from The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King: “The public demands that you to fulfill your oath, now and in public. Fight for this Nation and what is right, and regain your honor. What say you?”

Sadly, we unfortunately already know the answer, because if they do the proper thing, they are condemning themselves for their roles, complicity, and lies in the fraud.

Not me.
They are making sure most Republicans Senators have been sufficiently threatened.

Of course they did.

Its their brand.

With Trump they play Stonecutter’s Poker:

Before they vote, each Senator should be required to recite the oath he or she took as.a juror and to confirm that he or she is acting in accordance with that oath - and if unable to do do, will abstain.
It won’t make a difference, but it will highlight the hypocrisy for the public to see.

I guess Nikki is miffed she wasn’t included in the huddle.

Huddling is the new collusion.

I would hope that Joe Manchin, for one in particular, would note this as a prime example showing why his Republican “colleagues” in the Senate have no honor and cannot be trusted, other than a pitifully small number of them–too few to matter.
KILL THE FILIBUSTER, JOE. WAKE UP!
You can have no reasonable discourse with liars and cheats. Your attachment to the “traditions” of the Senate is quaint and lovable, but that Senate is dead.

Basically it probably went like this:

We are going to vote to acquit. But in order for it to not be too embarrassing, we’ve written down what you need to say. Hannity and Tucker also have this script, so try not to go too crazy. And stop with the whole head clutching and sipping water thing.

Jurors pass tips on defense to the accused’s lawyers in violation of the oath they swore as jurors.
Wot? You were expecting anything else?

I doubt that meeting was about “procedure.” And I also doubt that it was about giving Trump the best legal defense. It was probably about what the defense could say that would give the best cover to Graham, Cruz and Lee in explaining their votes to acquit. After all, if these three have learned anything at all from Trump, it’s that their personal interests comes before everything else, including the country, the Constitution and the oaths they’ve sworn.

“Collusion” was the first word that sprang to mind when I read the headline…

Why did they even bother?
