In your view, what is the moral of this play: Some Senators will pretend to be fair (for the public)? This thing is not in the bag, resignation is a good choice (Individual 1)? Both, while Moscow assesses the direction of the wind/figures out who he fears the most, Putin or the public?
I agree that Trumpism is unsustainable because:
A. Trump is physically and mentally severely impaired. His corporeal existence is unsustainable.
B. When the cult of personality loses said personality, the cult is not sustainable. I notice that many Trump wannabes fail (although a few succeed.)
C. The demographics are not sustainable. Racism is not going away, but the out-and-proud nature of it as a result of Trumpism are turning off minorities and horrifying suburban women. Meanwhile old white men keep dying, the young are more tolerant, the minority share of the electorate keeps growing.
Trumpism is the flailing about of white people who are uneasy at the changes in the world. But, this will not stop these changes.
It is very interesting to me to see how much people will actually screw themselves for the pretend feeling of superiority. As a woman, I’ve heard about the suspect emotionalism of my gender all my life, but to me, the Trump election was all about the emotional reaction of white men to the Obama presidency. I’d like to say that the better psychological manipulators (Trump + Putin) won in 2016, but I remind myself that they didn’t win the popular vote. So, there’s that.

He carried three vital states by about 78k, meaning if only 39k people switched sides he would have lost and by a fairly hefty popular margin.
I don’t think much of either of them.
I’m not buying Toomey’s faux concern. This smells too much like Jeff Flake and Susan Collins vis a vis Kavanaugh all over.

I agree with one qualification: The electoral college. If the 11% or so in key districts that changed their vote from Hillary to trump return to the Dems, we’ll be OK.

If it suppresses overall turnout it can have an impact, but as you say, it doesn’t directly affect Senate race outcomes.
