The thing that gets me about this is Trump is so stupid he thinks that that would do it - Barr vouches for him publicly so that’s it - impeachment over.
Yeah, ‘theghostofeustacetilley’ has been posting around here for almost as long as the site has been active, as is their fashion, and contributed greatly to the community’s discussions.
Clearly in evidence here, the R’s want to publicly identify and vilify the whistle blower, not hear a word that he or she has to say. This is all about suppressing whistle blowers.
Had a big office building suffer a major fire here recently. Defective furnace started it. A passerby called 911 and reported it. Now the local prosecutor is demanding the people overseeing the 911 system provide the name of the caller. He wants to know the caller’s motivation for calling in notice of the fire.
Poor “Gym” really has no business in government, as he clearly has absolutely no idea as to how it works. He thinks he can cry and stamp his feet to get his way. Good luck with that.
I may be optimistic but perhaps the Republicans are being sucked into a situation where they will not like the answer. Once testifying, the whistleblower will name names who will then also have to testify in public. The whole coverup will then be publically exposed.
OT. While we bury ourselves in “L’affaire Ukrainien”
Asked whether he still believed in the “collective defence” stipulations of article five of Nato’s founding treaty, under which an attack against one member is considered an attack against all members, Macron answered: “I don’t know.”
Nato “only works if the guarantor of last resort functions as such. I’d argue that we should reassess the reality of what Nato is in the light of the commitment of the United States,” he said.
“Courting the public opinion of the stupid” is brilliant. I’ve often thought when I listen to Trump and his enablers - who are they talking to? why are they spewing this obviously false crap? You answered both questions in just 7 words (all of which can be said on TV.)
Well, this tactic probably had it’s origins when Trump and his minions saw the effect that Comey’s “October Surprise” announcement had on HRC’s campaign. So Trump, stereotypic thinker that he is, thought it would work with Zelensky announcing an investigation into the Bidens (which almost worked), and in this case, a Barr announcement on his impeachment. In the last case, if Barr ultimately didn’t play along, it’s because Barr has other agenda items to pursue.
Nausea warning: Do not read if you have a sensitive stomach. From WaPo this morning:
11:45 a.m.: Trump Jr. says he doesn’t regret tweeting about alleged whistleblower
Donald Trump Jr. appeared on ABC’s “The View” with his partner, Kimberly Guilfoyle, on Thursday morning to promote his new book, “Triggered.” But the appearance quickly turned heated after the hosts, led by Abby Huntsman, pressed Trump Jr. on his Wednesday retweet of a Breitbart News article that allegedly named the whistleblower.
Trump Jr. said he “didn’t want to create hysteria” but doesn’t regret sending the tweet, arguing that the identity of the anonymous whistleblower “is not some secret.”
“I don’t regret doing it,” he said. “I don’t think I should have to forego my First Amendment rights.”
Guilfoyle, a former prosecutor, was asked whether she advised Trump Jr. not to retweet the article. She responded that she was not aware until after he had sent the tweet.
“I left you alone for 10 minutes,” she said. “What happens when mamacita’s gone?”
