Reps. Fred Upton (R-MI) and Anthony Gonzalez (R-OH) on Sunday lamented the threats they received after they broke ranks from former President Trump and their colleagues with the votes they cast in the past year. Both Upton and Gonzalez were among the handful of House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump for “incitement of insurrection earlier this year. Upton also faced backlash for supporting the bipartisan infrastructure bill earlier this month.
‘I never thought insurrectionist cop-killers would threaten MY life,’ sobs congressman from the Insurrectionist Cop-Killers Threatening Congressmen’s Lives Party.
I appreciate what they’re saying and the fact that they’re, at long last, speaking out. But I can’t forget they didn’t speak out when threats of violence were launched by Republicans and their supporters against Obama, Hillary, Pelosi, AOC, and many other Democrats. It would have been nice if they recognized all political violence, regardless of the individual it’s leveled against, is unacceptable. Nevertheless, I welcome their realization that their party has devolved into anarchy and lawlessness.
All thirteen of them supported every rotten dishonest, criminal act Trump and his merry band of miscreants pulled for four years.
Only after he was out of office did they have even a scintilla of honesty about what was going on.
They shouldn’t be threatened the way they have been
But any of them who is surprised hasn’t been paying attention to their so-called political party for the last five or six years.
Decrying threats of violence is so much less than the bare minimum, I’ll be giving no credit where none is due. These guys are vulnerable and should be targeted aggressively.
Longer than that. Republican Mike Lofgren in 2011:
It should have been evident to clear-eyed observers that the Republican Party is becoming less and less like a traditional political party in a representative democracy and becoming more like an apocalyptic cult, or one of the intensely ideological authoritarian parties of 20th century Europe
Four? Try forty. This all goes directly back to Saint Ronnie when he belched his now famous bid for the presidency in the heart of the racist south, Philadelphia Mississippi and opined that “government is the problem.” Imagine if one reporter had a pair in 1980 and asked, “if government is the problem, then why are you wasting your time so you can run it, you jackass has-been?”
GQP violence is a clear and present danger to our Democracy. Qevin must never become speaker of the house…he exemplifies this violence.
I’ll be writing as many letters as I possibly can for next years midterms. At six letters per hour it’s going to take much of my free time but will be highly rewarding if I can help keep this asinine power hungry jerkwad from becoming speaker.
