Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX), ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, on Sunday said Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) chances of becoming speaker if the GOP retakes the chamber remain “very strong” even after McCarthy lied about his previous plans to ask then-President Trump to resign after Jan. 6.
So, let me understand this: There are no consequences for lying. There are no consequences for turning a blind eye to an insurrection. There are no consequences for betraying a solemn oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution. Got it!
Oh, come on. We all know that if McCarthy publicly shat on Billy Graham’s grave with Putin’s swchanzstucken in his mouth, the GOP would only wonder why he thought of it before they did.
Oh, you realize the Democrats are only two points behind the Republicans at this point. In nearly every other midterm in the last 50 years the party in power was behind around 6 points. We have a chance but Democrats are going to have to stop accepting the self fulfilling prophecy. So is the press.
I think that most of us felt that the GOP House would behave like this, but it’s scary actually seeing it happen, especially after those not in the Cult reacted as though McCarthy’s abject dishonesty was improper.
McCarthy, however, appears unscathed in the eyes of Trump and the House GOP conference. After claiming he had spoken to Trump twice since the recording surfaced, McCarthy told reporters on Friday that they had a “good conversation” about the audio recording. McCarthy, who has leaned on the fact that he “never asked” nor “thought” Trump should resign as part of his defense, is reportedly expected to address his conference about the audio recording this week, when Congress returns from recess.
So - how does anyone know Qevin is not lying about his phone calls with TFG? How do they know Qevin won’t lie to the GQP conference?
One thing does seem certain - the GQP’s primary concern is whether TFG is angry with them. Who cares about constituents?
caught in a lie on live TV after denying that he planned to tell Trump to resign
Being a good xtian of the Republican sect, McCarthy went down to Merde-a-Lardo, confessed his sin, then atoned with 10 Our Donalds and five Hail Melanias. So all is good.
With the knowledge that Kevin is a spineless liar, I believe he never suggested to Trump that he resign. He probably told Trump that Cheney was driving it and potentially some of the projections on how a vote might go in the House and Senate. But no way he tried to suggest to Trump that Trump should resign.
