Rep. Don Young (R-AK) poked fun at the fatal COVID-19 outbreak and dismissed the notion of taking cautionary measures to prevent further spread of the coronavirus.
He’s nuts. I am not attempting to be hyperbolic. He’s just plain nuts. Why do people of his district keep employing this irrational buffoon to make public policy?
“This ‘beer virus’ I call it – they call it a coronavirus, I call it a beer virus, how do you like that? – it attacks our senior citizens,” he said. “Now I’m one of you. I still say we have to as a nation, as a state to go forth with our everyday activities.”
Edited to add: Incoherent. Intellectually lazy. Dangerous with his misinformation. Did I miss something?
I really don’t have a problem with people making jokes about this. Humor is an important way we deal with stress. MASH is one of my favorite TV shows and had a very effective anti war message while making jokes about life in a war zone. Humor is good. What is not good is telling people to not follow medical advice. We should stop shaming people for the obvious beer jokes or other humor attempts even if we don’t think they are funny and focus on the actual message they are sending. In this case a pretty bad one.
“We can overcome this mess if we just be calm,” the congressman said. “Whether you realize it or not we are at war now, but mostly because of the presentations by the mass media.”
Chuck Todd alone has killed 211 people. Sneezed the virus right through their flat screens.
