A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo.
The GOP nominee trying to unseat Rep. Lizzie Pannill Fletcher (D-TX) published a book titled “The Lost Diary of Anne Frank” in 2020 that was meant to be some sort of sequel to Anne Frank’s diary after she gets taken to the concentration camps, JTA reports.
As expected, the ex-president on Monday asked the Supreme Court to bar the IRS from handing over his tax returns to the House Ways and Means Committee.
Dr Johnny Teague is an author and historian, having earned five degrees, culminating with a doctorate in exposition from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. In preparation for writing this book, he interviewed many Holocaust survivors and studied at the Holocaust museums in Houston, Washington, D.C., and Yad Vashem in Israel. His studies have taken him to numerous historical sites, including Auschwitz, Dachau, the Corrie ten Boom House, and the Anne Frank House.
Sounds like Dr Teague went on some vacations.
As for the publisher of this book Addison & Highsmith, an imprint of Histria Books, it’s a print on demand title. Meaning if you order it from Amazon they get it printed from Ingram. Why waste precious shelf space on a vanity project.
Trump still doesn’t want his taxes out there. So yes he’s hiding something(s).
Affirmative Action bad, greed good.
GOP at level has a bit of racist infestation. It’s well past time to call Orkin to remove the pests.
I find it a bit depressing to realize that there just isn’t enough ridicule in the world universe for assholes like this.
(There’s supposedly only about 10^78 atoms in the entire universe and that leaves us significantly shy of enough ridicule, even if we could convert everything to ridicule.)
Being okay with Jews only insofar as you expect them to convert to Christianity, either individually or as eschatology (cf. millennialist Christian beliefs about Israel), is also antisemitic.
Someone should tell Christian Nationalists Doug Mastriano (and his wife Rebbie) that.
The wife of Doug Mastriano objected to criticism of her husband’s alleged close relationships with antisemites and his trafficking in antisemitic tropes, saying the couple loves Israel more than many Jews.
In answer to a question Saturday posed by Israeli journalist Nathan Guttman from the Kan public broadcaster, Rebecca Mastriano said that “as a family, we so much love Israel. In fact, I’m going to say we probably love Israel more than a lot of Jews do, I have to say that.”
“The Supreme Court Has No Reason to End Affirmative Action. They’re Doing It Anyway.”
IMO this is POOR analysis. The Republican Supreme Court must adhere to the wants of their Federalist Society masters, so there is every reason to end it.
Roadblocks and protests demanding a military coup to stop Lula being certified as president have erupted in all but two Brazilian states, according to reports. Brazil’s federal highway police said over 300 protests had partially or completely shut down roads around the country, while authorities in the capital Brasilia closed traffic access to the central government esplanade amid fears that Bolsonaro’s supporters were planning to stage a demonstration in front of the Supreme Court, which they perceive as having given Lula favorable treatment.
Videos shared on social media show blockages along the 1,000 mile-long BR-163 highway which links companies in the Amazon basin with ports in the north of the country. One clip shows a fire burning as vehicles block the road, with a remix of a Brazilian song using the lyrics “Bolsonaro 22” playing in the background.
