On Tuesday, during a House Rules Committee hearing on the commission bill, Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-OH) advocated for an amendment to investigate the 2017 GOP congressional baseball practice shooting, which left Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) injured.
I do too. I guessed that it would be around a dozen yesterday, but if Punchbowl is correct then it could be a couple of dozen. That’s significant and would eliminate any bullshit about a “partisan witch hunt”.
I don’t fault TPM for using it, because it is indeed a quote. I just get tired of the relentless march of such nonsense from the GOP. I don’t think they thought this through well, since as you say, he’s the rat. I just get a twitch at this stuff that becomes an out-loud complaint every so often.
… Except that getting a quote from Trump that he’d call off his storm troopers if McCarthy agreed to toss electoral votes would surprise exactly nobody, Democrat or Republican.
The fact that Trump is now likely facing his first-ever criminal charge after dealing with thousands of civil suits over the years may give a few R’s pause.
On the other hand, as long as it’s “only” financial crimes, it may not be a factor. The R base doesn’t care about things like tax evasion. They admire rich people for stiffing the gubmint. I think it might take something far more serious than a financial crime to peel the base away from Trump.
