GOP Maryland Governor: Now Is ‘The Worst Possible Time’ To Reopen Economy

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) stated in no uncertain terms on Thursday that reopening the economy right now during the COVID-19 outbreak really isn’t an option, despite President Donald Trump’s wishes.

Not if you listen to FauxNews…

What’s 2-3% of total mortality If we open our schools…

This cavalier attitude of American Covid mortality from Trump/GOP and their lackeys are pure EVIL!

Meanwhile, while the BIGCorp is taking 81.8% of the Cares relief funding…Those earning less than 75k will get $1200 of 10 weeks!

Larry, keep talking sense like this and you’re gonna transform into a Democrat.

Maybe the republican governor will join these guys. George T. Conway III, Reed Galen, Steve Schmidt, John Weaver and Rick Wilson

Today, the United States is beset with a president who was unprepared for the burden of the presidency and who has made plain his deficits in leadership, management, intelligence and morality.

Biden is now the presumptive Democratic nominee and he has our support. Biden has the experience, the attributes and the character to defeat Trump this fall. Unlike Trump, for whom the presidency is just one more opportunity to perfect his narcissism and self-aggrandizement, Biden sees public service as an opportunity to do right by the American people and a privilege to do so.

A Republican with common sense and a smidgen of integrity. A voice in the wilderness.

Hogan—like Charlie Baker in MA—is that rara avis known as a Republican with a Brain that works.

He’s my Gov. A very moderate Republican in a very blue state. I have liked 80% of what he has done over his two terms, which is saying something.

Conway and Schmidt always leave me queasy on their intentions. Not sure who Galen in. And Wilson, he is his own entity. Like Wilson’s snark as well.

As both Governors Newsom and Inslee said yesterday, reactivating the economy will not be an on and off switch but more akin to a dimmer. Sensible governors both Democrats and Republicans, put the safety of their citizens first. The need to protect essential workers and not overwhelm hospital capacity remains urgent. 30,000+ people have already perished. There is no need to make this worse than it already is.

The point, then, was always either to open it back up quickly or to provide a pro forma payment to point to as ‘help given’ when people start to starve to death, suffer eviction or repossession, or what have you.

Hogan is a solid pro-business Republican. He gave an F-You to Maryland school districts opening before Labor Day because it hurt Ocean City tourism. This guy gets all the GOP votes in Maryland for a reason.

So when he tells you we’re not ready to reopen he’s saying it from a pro-business perspective. He wants to open for good, and knows what it will take to do that.

We in Maryland have drive-thru Covid testing now, due to expand to all VEIP stations soon. He’s finding ways to make this work.

Hogan is an Eisenhower Republican, which is looking pretty refreshing right now.

1200 buck sought to be enough for those people to keep body and soul together… its almost 18 dollars a day… if you give them more they will start buying lobster and crab and shit… We don’t want to promote dependence like those lazy Europeans. Hey and don’t forget to give 10% of that to your Pastor, you really need someone praying for your soul.

Conway’s probably the most well intentioned of the lot. But I’ll never forgive Schmidt for signing off on Palin as McCain’s running mate. Galen’s a political consultant just like the rest of them.

I’ve always believed than when people are alone in a polling booth or sitting at the kitchen table looking at their mail-in ballot they don’t always vote party line esp. when there’s a monster at the helm. Joe’s not going to cause disruptions like a Sanders might have, so a R changing his stance in private might just happen.

Nah, he’ll try to be part of the “Donald Who?” faction in 2024.

I have few doubts about the brains of the conniving shitheads that are most Republicans. I suspect that their major malfunction is located where most people have a heart.

How many kids in a 2-3%?

Cuomo in his daily hour of sanity and real leadership laid out a fairly cogent and sensible plan that he and the others in the N.E. compact will enact without the blessing of the Orange Plague Monger.

Data from the SARS outbreak in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Singapore suggest that school closures did not contribute to the control of the epidemic. Modelling studies of SARS produced conflicting results. Recent modelling studies of COVID-19 predict that school closures alone would prevent only 2–4% of deaths, much less than other social distancing interventions. Policy makers need to be aware of the equivocal evidence when considering school closures for COVID-19, and that combinations of social distancing measures should be considered. Other less disruptive social distancing interventions in schools require further consideration if restrictive social distancing policies are implemented for long periods.

Wonder if he’s on the video teleconference call with the idiot in chief today? He is bound to get an ear full.
Stay strong governor. Looks like you’re one of the only Rethugs that can actually add 2 + 2.
