GOP Hates Drop Boxes Everywhere Except California, Where It’s Made Its Own | Talking Points Memo

The Republican Party has fought across the country to restrict the use of drop boxes for voters to return their mail-in ballots. But in California, the state party has gone in the opposite direction, creating their own ballot boxes and playing so loose with the rules that state has had to step in.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://talkingpointsmemo.com/?p=1338065

“While official drop boxes include extensive security checks and are listed on state government websites, the state Republican Party has created its own DIY versions, placing them at churches, gun stores and gas stations in at least three counties.”

This could work to the Dems advantage. Refuse to count those ballots dropped off anywhere other than official state boxes.

The moral of the story: don’t drop your ballot in anything that says “Dimocrat ballets.”

In Maine the ballot envelope has the SOS Voter File ID on it which indicates the voter’s party. If CA has the same information on the envelope, envelopes for Dems could be discarded.

Could be?

Re: “A Republican lawsuit in Pennsylvania to limit drop box use was rejected by a federal judge over the weekend. U.S. District Judge J. Nicholas Ranjan, a Trump appointee, wrote that plaintiffs hadn’t shown even an impending threat of voter fraud using ballot boxes.”

Yet another case of Republicans supplying the missing evidence of voter fraud by committing voter fraud.

“It doesn’t matter that the election interference and confusion and lost ballots were OUR fault, your honor. It only matters that it happened and rendered CA’s election unreliable and unverifiable, so it’s electoral votes should not be certified.”

"convenient locations to drop your ballot off at!”

Another genius who thinks English is or should be the national language but can’t fucking speak it.

There are multiple official county drop boxes within a couple miles of my home in Pasadena…there is just no reason for this, CA counties distribute drop boxes liberally to make it convenient for people to take their vote in. This is just for show by the Republicans, breaking the law to try to make a political point is on brand for them.

I wonder how they would react if the Democrats did this in Texas…I’m sure the lawsuits and arrests would happen within a few hours. Hopefully, the courts shut this down, hard, as this unmonitored ballot harvesting is exactly the opposite of how it is legally allowed in CA.

How is this not leading to someone being prosecuted?

It may. In CA, it’s pretty easy to track your ballot, so anyone who has questions about this after dropping their ballot in one of these boxes can check with the state to see if their ballot was delivered. If it disappears, they can still vote, and they can have the state follow up with what happened to their ballot…that would likely lead to prosecutions for interfering with the vote of the people involved, or lawsuits by them against the GOP (or both).

People have to track their ballots of course, but the information on how to do that is out there. I’m hoping any Democrats who got fooled by these boxes knows to check on their ballot’s progress towards counting, and can take action if their ballots disappear. And, if Republicans are dumb enough to disappear any ballots as part of this political stunt, they deserve the felony indictment and jail time that will follow.

Someone put the boxes there. Someone would be picking them up. Someone would be destroying ballots.

Seems like these could be discovered with some effort. o

If they don’t have the proper signatures on them (I put my wife’s in the real “Official Box” here), which is the name and statement of relationship of the person handing in the ballot, with the SIGNATURE of the voter, that would mean the ballot is invalid and will not be counted.

So, gather away, you dumbfucking morons.

Also, I love the fact they don’t know how to spell Gavin Newsom’s name.

Most of those ballots, given the locations, are likely Republican votes. So let them gather away and fail to get the proper information and signatures on them, which means they will be thrown out. I love it! They shoot themselves in their own feet.

I love the fact they’re too damn dumb to spell Governor Newsom’s name right.

Every county political party, and every candidate or committee, is entitled to possess that county’s voter file, which has name, address, and party preference. The outside of a California vote-by-mail envelope has the voter’s name and address. These party operatives could easily be shredding the ballots of registered Democrats and forwarding the remainder to real ballot boxes in the middle of the night. This situation isn’t a joke. State law enforcement should be raiding these people, not just sending stern letters.

I almost posted that very cartoon!! It’s one of his very finest, IMO.

Fresno county has 66 ballot boxes for only a million people. They definitely do not need party operatives to set up more of them.

If Lord Goldemort can send right-wing militias to polling places, the Democrats need to send left-wing militias to carefully watch these ballot boxes.

This is a win/win for them in their eyes. They go to court to “protect the right to vote”, and if they lose, it’s a sign of “suppression” of republican votes. And it creates a huge mess if those ballots end up voided. Chaos is the republicans’ friend, so they sow it wherever they can.
