GOP Guv. Tearfully Pleads Anti-Maskers To ‘Dial Up Your Empathy’ And End ‘Political’ Divide

As some right-wingers in several areas of the country (and the government) openly defy requirements on wearing masks on ideological grounds in spite of the COVID-19 outbreak, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum (R) despairs at the prospect of his state falling into the same quagmire.

A republican who has empathy and shows a caring, human side?

Why is it so rare! Tragic. Good for him though.

Late Night News -
Tonight at 1100 pm, as more allegations that Governor Burgum has empathy come to the surface, recall petitions are being distributed state wide. We’ll talk with one of the organizers of the recall effort.

“They might be doing it because they’ve got a 5-year-old child who’s been going through cancer treatments,” he continued, voice breaking.

Burgum took a moment to collect himself before continuing: “They might have vulnerable adults in their life who currently have COVID, and they’re fighting.”

Must be so tough to be him.

Someone wake me when he switches parties and campaigns against Trump.

Republicans dialing up their empathy? LOLOLOL.

Please expound. Giving you the benefit of the doubt, and assumption that you can.

Both of which are unlikely.

Gosh darn, it’s hard to “own the libs” when you’re crying about wearing a mask.

"I would ask people to try to dial up your empathy and your understanding.”

If Republicans had empathy and understanding, there wouldn’t be any Republicans.

Wow.

Here the names are worth far more than any picture.

Not that I know – and in any event I’d say that his personal or family medical information is his to discuss in public.

And I have no doubt you agree.

Meanwhile, if he’s so upset about his fellow Republicans playing heartless (and brainless) games with people’s lives, I can condemn his staying a Republican in the Age of Trump.

And again I have no doubt you agree!

Have a great evening.

Your “doubt” is comical.

Keep digging. You have a talent for it.

It must be a sad existence, being a Republican with some empathy and social responsibility.

I usually sleep well … but I also have no idea what you mean.

Point taken. However, I applaud any Repub Gov who addresses this masking ‘debate’ (stretching for words there, it is really just folks who care vs. assholes) in whatever manner.

I pray other Repub and Dem Govs do the same.

(aside: was at the tractor store for repairs today. You had to call into the store to get service and everyone was masked. This unmasked old guy in parking lot calls me over and is laughing (I thought because I was masked) but turns out he was on a con to get folks to use his nephew to fix parts “just down the road”. My wife can’t believe how I attract this trash.)

And I have no problem with Burgum’s show of emotion.

Quite the opposite.

But what I’d like is for him to think through the consequences of being a Republican politician in the Age of Trump.

And if not for North Dakota, he may well get there.

He’s not a long-time member of the party.

Fair enough.

I’m reminded (by you and never-mind-who) that I do have a tendency to ask too much!
