GOP Guv Says He Turned Down Senate Bid Because GOP Sens. Admitted They Don’t Do Anything

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R), who was one of the GOP’s top recruitment targets for the 2022 Senate midterms, was “pretty close” to throwing his hat into the race — until he found out his only purpose in the Senate would be to help Republicans keep the whole chamber dysfunctional.

The governor knows how to frame a narrative to make himself the hero - very appealing to the folks of “Live Free or Die.” But is the narrative true?

This is Qevin-esque saying-the-quiet-parts-out-loud. Have to wonder if the brains skipped a generation in this family.

Maybe he thinks this will fly with the electorate; but if that’s the case, he should run and hope to be a thorn in the side of the GQP.

I’m no fan of Sununu, but he is right about McConnell and the GOP Senate.

Who cares if the narrative is true or not. What do Tucker, Sean, and Laura think?

Shuffles off to file paperwork for Senate race.

I am surprised at Sununu’s candor but I think he is right. A Republican in the Senate isn’t expected to do a damn thing. I think I would go crazy not being able to work on solving problems. Of course doing nothing is what is expected by the Republican owner class.

I don’t see anything wrong or bad in this, to be honest, just mavericky or -ish or whatever it is. Of or like a maverick. This may be what everyone wants to hear in his state, I don’t read the polling on it, but if you think about it there are Republican political officials from the municipal level on up who have to do their jobs and mindless opposition doesn’t square with that. He doesn’t want to call himself a senator if he can’t be and act as one. I think that’s creditworthy, actually. He might be a bastard in other ways but I can’t fault this.

Moving on past the topic, I hate to bring up too often a certain former public official now a private citizen in Florida, but this is an interesting tidbit:

Nonsense. There’s all these lobbyists to listen to in exchange for donations, there are endless fundraising dinners with dull rich people who think the perfect evening involves spending $10k for a plate of luke-warm cafeteria food and getting a photo with a frumpy old politician.

Today’s fascistgop senators willingly admit to performing the task of a large pile of dirt, though they’re more expensive to maintain.

Did they also admit to Sununu that if they regain total senate and house control they’ll move on to their actual task of lowering taxes for the ultra-wealthy and eliminating those pesky regulations on BIG business. Those regulations designed to protect such commie concepts as protecting the health and safety of workers and consumers. Regulations designed to protect the environment and promote the common welfare.

Did they also let him know that once they regain the majority they’ll accelerate the process of reforming and streamlining the two party system by replacing it with a one party ‘democracy’?

Just being a big pile of dirt is only a temporary strategy, chris, you need to understand that.

He also sees where this is going …
… and he does not appear to be interested in having to go around and arguing that what the country needs is a Putin-like Strong Man ruler to make all of the decisions … and that the majority is just too lazy and incompetent to be entrusted with important choices.

This is where the GQP is headed … unify under a totalatrian strong man & poison the poor …and … minorities… and all others who won’t get in step with the ideology of the leader…

Republican senators get paid handsomely to do nothing or, more specifically, to keep stuff from happening.

Perhaps he’ll do an independent run for president. Then he can do things and stuff and other things.

I’m sure they have a more diverse agenda than that. Guns, prayer in schools, book banning/burning, more abortion and family planning restrictions. The list is endless, because they have to throw the crazies a bone. Tom Cotton will surely want to start a war with Iran on some pretext to be dreamed up.

Despite the ‘FL with foliage’ jokes, NH is actually purple, certainly not deep red by any means. Southern NH real estate became attractive to MA residents during the 80’s, and that portion of the state became a distant extension of the Boston suburbs (the commute is to the Boston suburbs mostly, not to the city).

So anyone running for office there has to be cognizant of the D voters, it’s hard to win statewide on the loony platform.

I am just puzzled why he would say this stuff and choose not to run. Perhaps he is keeping his powder dry for another election cycle.

I don’t doubt that what he’s saying is true, but I do doubt that’s the whole story. The rest of the story, I believe, is that they don’t really think they’re going to win back the Senate. The prospect of being a senator in the minority party for at least the next two years isn’t very appealing. If they thought they were going to win they’d be talking about all the shit they’re gonna jam through, how they’re going to pass all these bills to do this and that and make Biden sign them. They’re not. Now that I think about it, the MSM doesn’t think it’s very likely either. You hear them yammering on endlessly about the GOP winning the House but they always add a “maybe” about the Senate.

Why is it that the most telling attacks upon Republicans seem to come from other Republicans?
