A lot of candidates do that in various states. Here in Oregon for example Democratic candidate for US House in district 1 (Suzanne Bonamici) ran on the line for the Democratic Party and Independent Party. Sometimes you will see a Democratic and Working Family candidate, or a Pacific Green and Working Family candidate.
. . . To absolutely NO ONE’S surprise. Typical GQP criminal dishonesty.
Election fraud seems to be all Trump’s allies know how to do.
This concept seems rather weird…how can the votes for Zeldin from the Republican party add to the votes for Zeldin from the Conservative party? It shouldn’t be a sum, it should be seen as two separate candidates. It’s a huge advantage to have more than one entry on the ballot, if people not paying attention see your name multiple times they might be influenced to select it.
The only plank left in the Official Republican Platform:
Cheat.
What is going on here with these fraudulent signature companies? Are any of them being prosecuted for filing signature forms that they KNOW are illegal? Are the gatherers being arrested?
Is the candidate in any way responsible ‘legally’ in this case?
Simple.
Because the candidate is only one person.
Just like how here in Oregon the votes for Bonamici from Democratic Party voters are added together with the Bonamici votes from the Independent Party voters (and yes here in Oregon there is an Independent Party, which isa whole other mess entirely due to the name “Independent”)
“Every accusation is a confession”
Never more true than with today’s Republican party.
The candidate must produce a set number of valid signatures to get in the ballot. That’s on them.
The companies are held responsible. If the candidates know that fraudulent signatures are being submitted they are participants in the fraud. If they do not know, they are victims who are being cheated against by the companies submitting substandard signatures.
Actually, nothing here says his petitions for Conservative and Republican parties aren’t tainted. But the Libertarians only filed a complaint on the Independence one. So it’s possible that if someone filed a complaint for those petitions as well, they might find similar fraud (or they might not). But as of now, there’s no evidence presented whether they are or are not tainted.

If he’s running for guv on the GOP ticket, why would he be trying to appear on the Indepenence Party line of the ballot?
Thanks for asking your question–I was wondering the same thing. And thanks to the people who responded.

Please review New York State election law. Votes are for the candidate, not for the party. Why in the world would someone vote for John Smith just because John Smith was listed twice? I guess that makes sense if you think many voters use randomization in the voting booth.

If the race isn’t well-known, it’s worse than random. If they don’t have knowledge of the different candidates, people will often simply select the first name, whoever it is. So having a name appear multiple times does seem like it could improve a candidate’s chances, though primarily in lesser known races.
And what happens when John Smith from the Republican party and John Smith from the Green party are not the same person? How does that affect the vote? There’s several cases in Florida (where Gaetz seems to be involved) which had names close to the Democratic candidate where the Democrat lost.
It just seems like a stupid policy on its face, no matter what the law might say.
Because…reasons…
It clearly shows Democrats cheat better, due to decades of practice. The Republicans have been honest for thousands of years… and don’t know all the tricks. Plus the people who look at the signatures are all from the Democrat machine, so they cheat!
When I was a kid I used to blame my sister for tapping my fathers brandy. It was me. I blamed her for all kinds of shit. It was always me though.
“the Democrats cheat” reminds me of my childhood.
Once again, the only people being found to be committing voter fraud are the Republicans. I guess they learned from their god, the draft dodging Orange Asshole! Sad!
As a NY voter I look forward to a thoughtful debate.
it’s beautiful, isn’t it? Accuse the other side of doing something you’re doing, and then go triple down screeching "whatabout"isms.
Shamelessness is a superpower and deadly effective strangler of norms. Of course our media loves them some lazy cake and goes along with it virtually every time; see WaPo’s Glen Kessler and the Republican full frontal fake outrage about the 10-year-old and her abortion.

It just seems like a stupid policy on its face, no matter what the law might say.
Yes, but that applies to a hundred things in Albany. Some of them are different than the hundred legal but stupid policies in other state capitals.
