More pressure on Manchin. Keep the screws on, gently by all means, but on, on, on.

errata: the article incorrectly labels Manchin as D-VA

After noting that many West Virginians are struggling to pay their power bill due to layoffs amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Justice was pressed again about his stance on COVID-19 relief.

What ever happened to let them eat coal?

My confidence that Biden is going to get this win is as high as my confidence levels go anymore.

I mean, you can’t just hurry into these kinds of agreements. There are so many important considerations to bear in mind.
Let me tell you what I mean: if Biden shows up to to meet Collins, Portman, et al in a tan suit, you gotta know the agreements a no go. And, understandably so.

Did anyone else just read that as “yo, you so-called ‘Republican moderates’ in the Senate, don’t count on Manchin helping you to block the larger aid package” … ?

Makes sense if you want to avoid a Great Depression, but Republicans will talk about the debt and then talk about fiscal responsibility and austerity. The Republicans bloated the debt with tax cuts for the uber-wealthy during Trump’s and Dubya’s presiduncies. The Republicans placed a couple wars on our credit card during Dubya’s tenure. Hypocrites!

The government could simply go on a steel and lead standard. When people are hurting for basic needs they could hock their arms and ammunition hoards to the government and thereby feed and care for their families until good times come back.

Except when the money would be legally obligated to be spent on the poor, a Republican Governor has never opposed taking federal money. The same holds true for all Republicans.

Or has been said before, Christians believe in the prophets, peace be upon them. Republicans believe in the profits and how to get upon a piece of them.

Asked on CNN whether West Virginians find it more important for President Biden’s $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill passes even without Republican support or a bipartisan agreement even if they receive less money, Justice replied that he’s “not just blowing smoke” when he said he wishes “we could all come together.”

What does that mean: Even if (Biden’s 1.9 Trillion bill means receiving less money)? It would appear that a 1.9 Trillion dollar package would mean more money than the 600 Billion skinny 10-member-GOP package…would it not? Either TPM misquoted the interview or the Interviewer was on drugs…either way, I haven’t been able to link to the actual interview to know which is which…Links to quotes help.

LOL, who said there was a part?

(kidding too)

Something I have noticed is that the result of the whole Grover Norquist thing over the years has not really been to eliminate or even reduce taxes significantly, but rather to shift the burden from capital to labor. So if you manage a hedge fund, you pay 15%, but if you do actual productive work, you pay the regular rates of up to 34% or whatever (plus FICA/Medicare).

They need dollars rolling into the federal coffers, otherwise how could anyone profiteer off the MIC?

Unforgivable.
A sure sign of irreconcilable differences.

I hope that this is as significant as it appears to be. Manchin can’t position himself to the right of a rightwing fanatic.

The GOP governor of West Virginia takes a public position to the left of its Democratic senator?

Either Private Manchin’s got a major malfunction…

Or he’s pulling one helluva cagey “Please don’t throw me in the briar patch!”

Tell Justice he could just join the Democratic Party a second time if he wants to get some shit done. I mean, what’re they gonna do, call him a flip-flopper?
