Apparently Rep. Steve King’s (R-IA) become too toxic for his own party.
The Daily Beast reported on Sunday that King, notorious for his racist comments about immigrants and white supremacy, is struggling to raise funds for his reelection campaign.
However, King still has some support: Former Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO), who torpedoed his own reelection campaign in 2012 after making bizarre comments about “legitimate rape,” donated $2,000 to King’s campaign in April after the Iowa congressman told the New York Times he didn’t understand why white supremacy was “offensive.”
I guess Todd Akin, of all people, and now Steve King, can now appreciate how donors have a way of shutting that whole thing down.
Strange how the GOP could abandon someone who totally believes in everything that they themselves totally believe in. I suppose his mistake was stating their beliefs out loud.
If King had any balls or sense whatsoever (yeah, I know, I’m also laughing at that while I type it), he would be publicly screaming about how he is being castigated while Trump and the rest of the GOP are doing the same thing he is.
If they’re gonna try to drag you down, Stevie, start slinging some shit that will stick. You don’t have to be a loyal GOP Trumpster if they’re dissing you.
Trump bought some goodwill from them, literally, with the not paid for plutocratic tax cut and regulatory relief, but if the economy suffers or he insists on controls over the ability of American companies to do business in China, I think they’ll turn on him.
There’s no morality or loyalty with companies, it’s ultimately always about future profitability. And if Trump threatens that, he’s gone. And his base won’t save him from that fate.
Steve King, in the scheme of things, is a speed bump. He’ll probably have no corporate gigs or lucrative lobbying contract after his political career. The best he can hope for is to be another raging right wing talk show host.
