Global Death Toll Tops 200,000 As Some States Start To Loosen Restrictions | Talking Points Memo

ATLANTA (AP) — As the global death toll from the coronavirus surpassed 200,000 on Saturday, countries took cautious steps toward easing lockdowns imposed amid the pandemic, but fears of a surge in infections made even some outbreak-wounded businesses reluctant to reopen.

["On Friday, President Donald Trump spoke optimistically of the economy but also asked people to continue social distancing and using face coverings. He also signed a $484 billion bill to aid employers and hospitals. In the past five weeks, roughly 26 million people have filed for jobless aid, or about 1 in 6 U.S. workers.

Trump also said his widely criticized comments suggesting people can ingest or inject disinfectant to fight COVID-19 were an attempt at sarcasm."]

Making Trump “normal”.

I wouldn’t necessarily want a customer who would have me as an nonessential business during this time.

If you take on COVID with politics you are guaranteed to lose. There is no safe way you can operate a tattoo parlor or hair salon with COVID about. Dine in restaurants too. How can you maintain 6 feet of distance and get a tattoo? Or be served a ribeye? Hard top wear a mask and eat as well.

The masks most people are wearing are no better than no mask at all. A cloth mask will do nothing to stop a virus from exiting your nose or mouth and gaining entry into the space around you. Georgia and Oklahoma have die hard Trump supporting governors. They aren’t “opening the economy” they’re supporting Trump and risking their constituents lives.

The only effect this will have is an increase COVD cases. None of this is the way to lessen them.

How about with the retractable 6-foot tattoo ink poles and the tattoo-giving drones? BIRX SAID THERE WERE CREATIVE SOLUTIONS! Birx wouldn’t lie would she?

“He is so attentive to the scientific literature and the details and the data, and I think his ability to analyze and integrate data that comes out of his long history in business has really been a real benefit during these discussions about medical issues.”

Dr. Birx speaking of Trump. Yes she would lie to us and has on several occasions.

Normal? Anything but.

It is typical for presidents’ names to be plastered on buildings after their time in office. Trump is the first president to see his named removed from buildings before his term ends.

That’s not normal.

Yeah, he was just trying to ‘lighten up’ the mood in the room.

She will never recover from the stain of having associated herself with Trump.
And that’s a good thing.
I have absolutely no sympathy for her.

What kind of mind feels it’s worth risking his/her life to get a tattoo?

This is what the NY Times tweeted and then deleted after the ratio… as if there are “experts” out there that might view this as “not” dangerous.

Not true.

(Best advice as of March 30.)

Shawn Gingrich, CEO and founder of Lion’s Den Fitness, decided after the Georgia governor’s announcement that his Atlanta gym would remain closed for now.

“We’ve sacrificed so much already,” Gingrich said. “I feel like if we do this too soon, we’ll see a spike in cases and we’re back to square one.”

Finally, someone who makes the name Gingrich palatable and everything Newtie is not.

Didn’t the U.S. just hit 50,000 total deaths yesterday? Today it is up to 53,000+. We will blow by 60,000 sometime next week. These facts just do not matter to governors like Kemp and DeSantis.

A lot of small business owners are desperate, and want whatever income they can get, even knowing the risks.

No. I work in that biz so I’ll defer to myself. If viral particles are your aim you need at least a KN95 mask. No cloth or surgical mask will do. SX masks are to avoid contamination of an operative site with saliva or aerosols from the surgeon. They don’t fit tight and are lightweight. The must be because surgery is a very tense experience and done under heavy industrial lighting while wearing a gown. You’d smother in a tight mask.

Cloth masks are not FDA approved for any medical work. They’re not approved for surgery that’s for damn sure. I wear a lightweight molded mask in the OR. I do have KN95’s but they are for my staff when working with a zoonotic threat.

The masks in your top pic are not surgery masks. They appear to be dental technician masks…over the ear jobs. Designed to protect their wearer from a patient.

Home made cloth masks are hardly worth it. Their filter grade is big enough to allow a 1000 COVD particles side by side through. I’m not saying you should not wear them but I am saying they won’t do much without a 6 foot distance as well. They won’t do squat in a tattoo parlor or a hair salon.

Not interested in your deferring (or not deferring) to anyone.

The advice I posted above comes from Ana Rule and Kirsten Koehler of the Department of Environmental Health and Engineering at the John Hopkins School of Public Health.

How many customers would they need to have to keep them going?

How many are they really going to get?
