I TRULY want to punch these unamerican, lying grifters in the mouth. I just got off the phone with a co-worker that is working on his taxes and he found that Trump took less out of his paycheck, UPPED his taxes under the covers and now he owes ADDITIONAL taxes on top of the $17,000 he paid out of his paycheck. He also owns ‘farmland’ that was inherited and the taxbreak that those in the middle class used to get has been messed with…and part of his ‘pension’ from the VA has been reduced because … one more time the Republicans are all about using the middle class and military (and police) as talking points while they screw them over.
Right. They are bitching about the ‘blue state bailout’, but they want the blue states not just to subsidize their budget, but to pay for tax cuts on top of that. Fuck 'em. With 60 grit sandpaper.
A simple, readily understood, truly effective way to frame the debate against these duplicitous, disingenuous, deplorable QOP assholes.
One last point:
The people who inhabit GOP-land right now are geared for conflict, hatreds, resentments and non-stop animosity.
To contrast…It was Republican Everett Dirksen who worked with LBJ on the CIVIL RIGHTS BILL in the 1960s.
All people who have ever called themselves responsible individuals and also “Republicans” are going to have to decide to turn this bullshit OFF.
And we are going to have to collectively Shelden Whitehouse ** the GOP. That’s right, I am using the man’s name just like people now use Stacey Abrams as a verb.
** call the GOP out as a sociopathic organization
Yay, tax cuts. It’s the GOP’s “Freebird.” And just as exciting the 8 millionth time.
Remember when States got tobacco-settlement money windfall in the form of annual payments? The dough was designed to turn into State-sponsored anti-smoking campaigns and smoking-illness remediation. The vast majority of states turned the cash flow into bond sales and spent the lump-sum money on general-purpose needs and deficit reductions. (AZ was one exception.) The States simply aren’t to be trusted to keep to a deal when Free Money, Whee! is involved. Here is further proof.
Call. Their. Bluff.
And if they are not bluffing? Let them delay aid to their own states while tying this up in the courts, they won’t be able to restrict voting enough to win any more elections.
I used to be disgusted…
Now I try to…
Shit.
Nope, can’t do it. Can’t even h/t Elvis Costello on this one.
Bingo
Twelve states have yet to pass a Medicaid expansion: Wyoming, Texas, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina , South Carolina, Kansas and Florida.
The majority of those states are part of the 21 who signed this letter. But hey, let’s rail at the Democrats who dare to want to help the residents of those states.
The Federal Government has the legal right to put conditions on the money provided to States. They can even mandate States do things that aren’t funded. I have to wonder how far this will go in the Federal Courts?
Absolutely. And I don’t see these AGs or govs having the stones to cut taxes while rolling the dice and hoping that the lawsuit comes through for them. I’m not well-versed in what nuances might implicated the federalism question here, but it seems to me the States can simply refuse the money if all they want to do with it is cut taxes. Many similar lawsuits have failed where the carrot/stick dynamic of federal funding was found constitutional. What’s that law they’re still flogging that prevents federal funds from going towards anything in the same zip code where an abortion is performed? Seems analogous to me.
So send any funds they turn away to blue states then. If they’re going to say it, we should do it.
How do you spell Kansas?
And the Democrats should be all over the TV making this point.
“The billionaires in this country raked in an extra trillion dollars while the rest of the country suffered and lost their jobs, their businesses, and their homes during a pandemic that killed over a half a million Americans. The GOP seems intent on getting financially strapped Americans all killed while making the obscenely wealthy, who couldn’t possibly spend the money they already have, even richer.”
Or something like that.
Ok, so let’s put the stimulus destined for those States on hold until the courts decide.
The rest of the States will enjoy the injection of money into desperate coffers that have no alternate agenda.
And by the way, they’re too late to affect their voters. That stimulus money is already in the hands of those voters.
Whiny little babies. Let their States starve while the rest of us merely survive.
There is a thing called “strings” in the universe of appropriations. According to these Attorneys General (a.k.a. Mothers Fucker), laws relating to misappropriation of funds are null and void. It never ceases to amaze how dumb some people are.
