Give Us Tax Cuts Or We’ll Take Stimulus To Court, GOP AGs Demand | Talking Points Memo

Republican state attorneys general are claiming that a bid to prevent the states from using the $1.9 trillion Biden stimulus package to finance tax cuts constitutes “the greatest attempted invasion of state sovereignty by Congress in the history of our Republic.”

Economically minded, they are not.

It’s helping the parts of the economy that need the most help, not a grifting opportunity.

In other words, they want to render the aid ineffective and divert it to the wealthy.

Yes, this is only one attempt out of many.

Every time I think these republican assholes have reached the bottom of the barrel they prove me wrong. Sorry pieces of crap every damn one of them.

Don’t think of them as proving you wrong.

Think of them as proving you right in hindsight.

Are these the same Republican Attorneys General that helped finance the attack on the capitol? If so, I shoud think we could give them a little something else to think about.

It’s federal money going to the states. Of course, the Feds should be able to dictate how it’s used.

They can always turn down that money from the stimulus, and then cut their taxes. No one is stopping them.

But no, they want to cut their taxes but keep the same level of services, by using the stimulus to fill in, that is, having blue states pick up the tab.

I hope Yellen tells them to go fuck themselves, she’ll see them in court. They might win in the Supreme Court, but hopefully it will take years for the case to get there. Meanwhile, states that do take the money will be even farther ahead.

The question is can the Federal Government TARGET aid to the states or must it give carte blanche authority to spend money from the federal Government. The obvious answer from Chief Injustice Roberts own opinion on the ACA that if the states don’t agree with Federal priorities they can refuse the money.

Single minded is more likely.
Trying wrap my head around that Republicans didn’t want to send money to the states, because those states shouldn’t be bailed out, that they didn’t foresee a global pandemic and had prepared for such a once in a hundred years occasion. Now those that were against helping states and cities to not lay off workers because of decreased revenues now demand the all US citizen’s tax dollars should be used to give tax brakes to businesses in these 21 states.
We may need to go full Jade Helm on re-education camps for these assholes. Also because I’m petty the cost of the ensuing law suits should be borne by them alone.

Is there an opt out option? Maybe they should just turn down the federal aid and do their tax cuts and prove libs wrong as their economies prosper.

The sheer White entitlement and privilege on display is breathtaking. The states need a democratization initiative.

Give us tax cuts for the rich or we will start another bloody insurrection?

Not so much if the tax cuts are for the working poor. They never deserve a living wage. So how are the filthy rich faring these days without getting a second stimulus check this round? Dying in the streets?

It sounds as though they think they can bluff that woman Yellen but are not sure they can win in court.

The Federal government has no obligation to finance their tax cuts.

The grants were designed to allow the states to repair the damage from the Pandemic not to further help those well off enough to pay taxes.

Next time Congress may decide to micro-manage how any money they send is spent.

Might be a good idea to do so anyway. Republican legislatures are not good at helping their states.

The red states are takers enough wirhout having the Federal government fund their well-to-do.

Bingo. These are the clowns who started the nullify the vote movement for The Con Man.

Good luck with that suit, morons; you can take the money or not, but you can’t decide what you do with federal funds any more than you could finance tax cuts with money for highway maintenance.

We know you greedy bastards love coupons from bond issuance, so you can do that without taking the federal aid.
