Rudy Giuliani associate Lev Parnas wants a federal judge to ignore prosecutors’ claims that he lied to a pretrial services officer and concealed his finances and to instead loosen his conditions of release, according to a Monday bail memo.
Parnas is a trial balloon. The legal maneuverings here are part of Russia’s assault on our country.
Wise-guys know there’s etiquette and behaviors that can be deployed to silence the alarm bells that ring in the heads of honest people when a sensitive boundary is tested. What might look like backpedaling or obsequiousness here is in fact no different than the enzyme mosquitos inject into our bloodstream while biting us.
Russia is investigating how malleable, how corruptible from the outside, the American justice system is, one courtroom at a time. None of this will be done in good faith, but do expect lots of “we almost caught you a lie that suddenly isn’t a lie.” They’ll be faking us out to see how much it takes to throw the attention of the court and the public.
Hey Judge. This is all a big misunderstanding. That million bucks, that was a loan to my wife. I’m sorry I did that, Judge, but you hafta unnerstand. My life’s in danger. Even before this, if you can believe it. I respect you, Judge, and I know that you will do the right thing. I know people. You’re good people. I can tell.
Parnas was a broker and principal in 3 brokerage firms shut down by Federal reg agencies for violating trading rules (pump and dump; fraud, etc). That he claims to be confused about the rules about money is a complete lie. He knows white collar crime, and as such, needs to be detained until he cooperates in some publicly acceptable fashion. His lovely bride, too, if she accepts mysterious “loans” from oligarchs.
I find it so hilarious because “loan to the wife” is an excuse we’ve literally had to deal with from people trying to hide their income from a judgment. Parnas’ trophy wife is more than likely an empty-headed do-nothing who would have zero business receiving a $1M loan. She’s a pass-through.
The filing also states that Parnas is continuing “to produce materials within his custody and control” for Congress, after the House Intelligence Committee issued him a subpoena in October.
“He remains intent upon complying with his subpoena and assisting the Impeachment Inquiry to the fullest extent required,” the document says.
