Ginsburg Makes First Appearance Since News Of Cancer Treatment

Between the election and the Senate turning over is about 60 days…the average since 1975 to confirm a justice is 67 days, so it can be done in 60, especially if you force the Senate into session and ram a justice through. McConnell doesn’t really care about the Senate, tradition, or rules, only power, and if he’s tossed out of office he will definitely do anything he wants, and damn the torpedoes. The only thing that might save us from this is Thomas’ arrogance that he needs to stay on the SC “to stand against the liberals”…he will hopefully be forced to retire before another Republican can replace him.

Or we could just punch Mitch McConnell in the head which wouldn’t fix anything but would make me feel a little better.

Here’s the statement:
“Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg today completed a three-week course of stereotactic ablative radiation therapy at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City,” a statement from the Supreme Court read. "The focused radiation treatment began on August 5 and was administered on an outpatient basis to treat a tumor on her pancreas. The abnormality was first detected after a routine blood test in early July, and a biopsy performed on July 31 at Sloan Kettering confirmed a localized malignant tumor.

“As part of her treatment, a bile duct stent was placed. The Justice tolerated treatment well. She cancelled her annual summer visit to Santa Fe, but has otherwise maintained an active schedule. The tumor was treated definitively and there is no evidence of disease elsewhere in the body. Justice Ginsburg will continue to have periodic blood tests and scans. No further treatment is needed at this time.”

This indicates to me a localized tumor in or near the bile duct. They say it was treated “definitively”. I would take that to mean the cancer cells are gone. It’s how I took exactly the same word I was given a month ago with my own cancer (my second bout) which I must hasten to add was not anywhere near the pancreas. But I would add that her cancer was far far more serious than mine was.

In her case, it’s because the radiation shielding from the ozone layer prevents her from receiving her usual dosage of cosmic rays while underway between solar systems.

Nothing to see here, just needs that regular pick-me-up like most of us need coffee in the morning.

RBG is a case in point that we ought not to judge on appearance. She is tough. Very very tough.

Well, she’s also an alien being, as I pointed out, so not subject to the same problems as we mere humans.

BTW: great to hear that your treatment was definitive!

Let’s also not forget her physical training — her workout would flatten most of us. It’s that physical activity that keeps her in tip top shape.

I hope you are right! We need to eliminate the puppet masters along with their puppet.

Sometimes I wonder if she’s fucking with us in the sense that this is her way of telegraphing to Democrats that she would like to retire … when we have a New Democratic president, so get out and vote and win! We all know she’s a bad ass but even a bad ass has their limits. No one is immortal.

Bingo.

Can’t get rid of the lifetime appointment without an amendment, but adjusting the number, organization or duties is all fair game. “Justice Emeritus” where they get to sit in on arguments, write opinions, etc but not get a vote would be my preferred solution.

Having 30 SC Justices sitting at one time would be a zoo.

I have a more elegant solution: In every Court where the GOP has planted a Judge, add 1 or 2 Justices. If the GOP plant is radical, add 2. If the GOP plant is moderate, add 1.

Smoke better stuff next time.

Works fine for the Ninth Circuit. Make 'em decide cases in panels of 3 judges, subject to en banc review. Judges in senior status don’t get to participate in en banc (or just make them preside over traffic court in Alaska, I don’t care).

To ensure that her replacement is picked by a Dem president.
