The Georgia Senate on Monday backed legislation loosening gun restrictions just two weeks after eight people were killed in Atlanta-area spa shootings.State Sen. Bo Hatchett (R) touted the bill as a way to protect the Second Amendment, which “recognizes Georgia’s commitment to protect its citizens and their Second Amendment rights,” according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The state Senate also voted to amend the state House bill to bar Kemp from implementing guidelines that “specifically limit the practice of any religion” during a declared state of emergency.
"Senators amended the legislation to permit probate judges to process gun carry licenses and renewals online, instead of the current process of requiting applicants to show up to the court in person."
Understandable.
Public displays of drooling, mad barking, spastic tics and conversations with the ficus in the lobby are embarrassing.
I blame the evangelism of the NRA. Back in the 70s, a Florida State professor was shot by a disgruntled/failed grad student who had purchased a handgun just hours in advance. Passing a three-day cooling off period for gun purchases was a no-brainer, very widely supported.
It seems like it’s about time for Democrats who own weapons to march with their guns openly displayed onto a state capitol somewhere, in order to scare the crap out of Republican politicians who somehow think that their white supremacist supporters are the only ones who have guns and the knowledge and willingness to use them if necessary. Make it clear that Y’all Qaeda isn’t the only group of armed citizens, and just maybe they will reconsider their absurd laws.
Maybe there hoping to get the NRA to move to Atlanta, if Delta or Coke do the right thing and pull out their headquarters. I understand that this would lose headquarters jobs, but it would move the taxpaying entity to another state and hopefully hit these GA legislators where it hurts. Should the R’s get voted out, they could move back.
