Georgia Law Creating New Hurdles For Voters Already Faces A Legal Challenge | Talking Points Memo

Was this not more or less what everyone expected to happen? Not a lot of surprises here to date.

Yes people shouldn’t have to. People also shouldn’t go hungry in the richest country and networks shouldn’t be allowed to lie to the public, but thats not the world we are in now. We will have to work harder so we can overcome these laws and eliminate them.
Live in the world we have while trying to improve it. We will just have to work harder to prove to these morons that they lose because the people dont agree with them.

Roberts is delighted and waiting for the right opportunity to finish the job. His life’s project, starting in the DOJ under Reagan, has been the disenfranchisement of POC, the poor and anyone else that has the temerity to vote Democratic or just generally oppose his “corporations and the rich uber alles” positions.

I guess we should consider ourselves lucky that they just cannot help themselves when it comes to their mindless cruelty born out of their innate racism. Despite all of the horrendous parts of this bill that are really scary, this is the provision everyone is talking about. Everyone can imagine themselves standing in a long line and making it a crime for someone to give you some water woke everyone up.

After thousands of black people killed by police, it was the video of a cop with a knee on a man’s neck for 9 minutes that woke people up last year. It looks like this bill is similar in that regard.

They just can’t help themselves.

I don’t know why they didn’t just pass a bill saying they aren’t going to let any damn darky Democrat vote. This has to be the dumbest fight the GOP has ever picked.

Further proof that most people with actual intelligence have left the party unless they are completely amoral.

I expect Roberts thinks the optics are a bit uncomfortable but that the bottom line is to entrench GQP power and any effort that hampers minorities from voting is a step in that direction. I’m sure he’s fine with all the voter suppression efforts he has done so much to enable.

And the challenges against the ACA were, for the most part, pushed back.

But there are 240 some bill writers across the country that don’t agree, so these bills will keep coming forward, just like the 60+ actions in the House to cancel the ACA. This will become the narrative of this administration for the next 2 - 4 years. We need HR1 to pass, without a doubt, but bet on court challenges to be frontpage for the foreseeable.

Someone had to start the fire. GA chose it to be themselves.

That bit would go over well in Arizona. Or Nevada.

When many people were praising these cheating, lying, American democracy-hating Republican fucks in GA because they “did the right thing” during the election, I kept saying that the only reason they appeared to “do the right thing” was because national attention was focused on the election results in GA because of the actions of Trump and there was no way they could get away with helping him steal the election, because if they could have gotten away with it they would have done it in a heartbeat. It is who they are.

Now this new voting law just proves what I and many others said in the first place. And, believe me, it does not feel good to be right about this. I can only hope this is really pissing off people as much as it seems to be doing.

I prefer to look on the brightside and consider the possibility that this massive overreach on the part of the GQP will blow up in their faces and have a huge number of state legs change hands as quickly as the House of Reps did in 2018.

We did keep saying that this overreach was going to kill them in the 2020 elections. We kept saying kids in cages and all the rest of it would lead to a blue wave.

It didn’t.

It should’ve, but it didn’t.

And if this and other laws like it are allowed to stand, the possibilities are far more remote than they were four months ago.

The GA GOP thought they were unleashing the Cracker. Sad for them, that monster is not quite as powerful as it once was.

Marc Elias is going to do that as well.

In the case of George Floyd and many others…it is tragically literal.

The optics of originalists requiring a driver’s license or any photo ID to vote would be absurd as cameras were not around when the Constitution was written.

Thanks for heads up.BTW we will really see.
