George Santos Will Almost Certainly Be Sworn In—It’s Just A Question Of When

The neverending speakership-election debacle that’s left Congress in an unprecedented legal limbo has also stranded George Santos, the member-elect who fabricated several aspects of his resume, in his own void. Santos — and the other freshmen members of Congress — have not been sworn in, and won’t be until the ongoing feud within the Republican Party reaches a truce and members finally elect a House speaker.

A lying con man who has zero integrity and interest in governing. Only in it for the grift. Perfect example of today’s gop politician

“he can serve from a prison cell.” Such stubbornness, however, would be unprecedented.

While James Trafficant didn’t serve from a prison cell, that’s only because he was expelled from the House (420-1 vote). He certainly did run for congress again from his prison cell.

How about June? Who wants to bet the new House members wont be sworn in before summer?

Don’t all members of the House have to be sworn in? Even if you’re re-elected? Or is it once and done?

When a Speaker is elected, they will still need McCarthy and Santos votes. The majority is too close. This will not change.

Okay, I totally whiffed on the Powell case earlier today. My bad.

Good reporting; concise: Unless Santos turns out to be a non-citizen, it appears nothing prevents his serving as a congresscitter, although ‘serving’ may not be exactly the correct term in this context.

TBH he is hardly the worst of the lot and that certainly includes GOP ‘leadership;’ e.g,

“Since Boebert is an extremist loon & she’s opposing Kevin McCarthy that must make McCarthy the “good guy” in the perpetually simplistic white hat vs. black hat scenario that’s delivered to the American people by the overwhelming majority of the US media.” https://t.co/emH0VOAEU9

Someone — sorry I don’t know who to credit — pointed out that once #ScamOnTheLam Santos is sworn in he can’t be arrested while going to or from, or while in the Capitol conducting his official duties.

This will, of course, leave him “somewhat vulnerable” to arrest whenever he’s at home. Sad.

Just about every term of congress some critter or other is indicted, arrested, convicted, and sentenced. Sometimes even more than one. The Speech or Debate clause does not prevent successful prosecution for criming.

ABC World News Tonight with David Muir bump: “As democracy plays out on Capitol Hill ….”

Corporate media, watching a different movie, sanitizing insanity, at its best! Yet he failed to mention “Democrats in disarray!” FAIL

Santos would absolutely happy to continue receiving his Congressional paycheck from a prison cell.

Of course he will be sworn in. If the Republicans wish, he can be expelled with a 2/3 vote. The constitution is clear on that, at least.

The citizenship question isn’t getting any traction. Maybe there’s some kind of irrefutable evidence popping up at the top of the search, so everybody just stops digging? If not, why aren’t the muckrakers pressing him about it?

From news photos it appears that Santos is sucking up to the crazy faction. Probably a viable strategy for someone who can be just about anyone.

Until a Speaker of the House is appointed Santos will not be sworn in as a Representative, leaving him vulnerable to extradition to Brazil over his fraud case.

Agree. But enough about Donald Trump. We are talking about George Santos (I know. It can be confusing).

In fact, all he’s done is file a single piece of paper making an announcement that he’s intending, that he’s running for the presidency…He believes that the announcement is another chapter in “the great grift of Donald” because it’s about getting his voter base “to send in more money under the guise that he’s going to run.”
