No. In all states House members are replaced via special election, not appointment. The governor may get to schedule the special election or choose to leave the seat vacant until the next general. We would want the general election option because that’s a close district and winnable.

That’s actually a likely component of any plea deal, though the GOP House does look ready to make the question moot for him. But they will probably delay considering it until after any conviction.

I would have said high likelihood, not inevitable. But it’s awesome that it happened this quickly. With Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE) it took five years to get from strawman donation crime committed to indictment.
