On Tuesday morning, New York Democrat Tom Suozzi, a former congressman, made it official: He’s running for the House seat currently filled by scandalized Rep. George Santos (R-NY). In an announcement posted to social media, Suozzi cited the “absurdity” of Santos’ continued presence on Capitol Hill.
Santos, like Trump, ran a con that he didn’t expect to last. And now, like Trump, he’s slipping and sliding without any real idea for an exit strategy. I’m going to enjoy his humiliation and his contribution to GOP disarray.
I’m one district over but I would not vote for Suozzi in the primary next year. He wanted to be governor and lost big time. I would want new democratic blood in that seat.
What happened to the attempt to expel/censure the Dem Congressman who pulled the fire alarm?
And yet still nothing about Santos?
I think the fire alarm story was ‘created’ and all related to ‘control of the video.’ The guy said he did not mean to do THAT, he was in a panic to get to the vote. AND I tend to believe him. Because the GOP has dropped it.
Unlike Trump, he doesn’t look to have a fanatical “base” or much going for him beyond smoke and mirrors. And, he sure won’t sneak in under the radar in this election. Like Trump, sunlight is deadly to his political style.
I think a local paper (Long Island Newsday?) did give it a fair amount of coverage. But then, a lot of people only get news, if at all, from the local TV news, which apparently did nothing.
OTOH, while media is almost always PART of the problem, it doesn’t by any means explain everything.
The real problem is the electorate. Upwards of 40% of the American population would vote to turn Yosemite into a toxic waste dump and bring back chattel slavery. Nothing anyone says can convince them to be sane. And another indeterminate percentage isn’t evil, but utterly clueless and ignorant as a rock.
That doesn’t leave much of a margin for the reality-based community.
Hey, I think Santos fits right in with most of the Republicans in Congress. After all, he has only shown himself to be a liar, corrupt, and totally without shame or ethics. Sounds like a perfect description of the average Republican Congressman to me.
" My older brother who is a Navy Seal Fighter Pilot from another branch of the British Royal Family is going to come over here and beat Suozzi up and then we’ll go to lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe."
Is it that Suozzi lost badly in the governor’s race that will doom him? Or is he genuinely a bad candidate? I’m not from there, so I have no valid way to know the facts on the ground.
Granted, vacating to run against Hochul allowed Santos to slither into the seat. Is that alone enough to make him PNG?
