Doesn’t this make one question the intelligence of Georgia Republicans. First they do as much political damage as possible with insane proposals that are obviously racially- as well as politically motivated. Then they back of to simply extreme proposals, which they quickly pass through the legislature, and sign in a ceremony seemingly designed to annoy anyone opposed to chattel slavery and white dominance of politics.
Some commentators have even argued that “owning the libs” has become the end-in-itself for cultist Republicans, regardless of the political damage it causes. This whole Georgia legislative story is at least consistent with that… with the sane Republicans like Duncan calling it out, and the pusillanimous cowards like Kemp pretending they don’t see it.
It seems at least likely that the net result will be higher Black and Democratic turnout, especially since Fair Fight and other organizations are out there not only publicizing the perfidy but also organizing and institutionalizing the means to cope with the legal changes.
As for the crazy parts about the Legislature taking over county vote counts or substituting its own decisions on elections, well… IANAEL, but if such a substitution of outcomes took place, would the Voting Rights Act enable litigation, and would our SCOTUS (which is certainly highly politicized, but has not become part of the disgraced ex-president’s cult, by its actions so far) really go along with such substitutions of judgment?

Would love to see Delta come back to Minnesota (home to Northwest Airlines before the merger). I am guessing Michigan might like to see it make its home in that hub city, as well. Hell…with Delta’s expanded presence in WA…I’ll bet Delta would be welcome there, as well.

As crazy and rightwing as the people who run Texas are, I have a hard time imagining them trying to punish American Airlines for taking some position that is contra the GOP. The number of jobs American has brought to the state ought to get it a free pass to hold any opinions it wants to.
Same with Delta. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face…
