GREENBELT, MARYLAND—I suppose it was inevitable that in a case over whether the Trump administration can defy federal court orders without consequence, a trial judge would emerge as a main character. In the Kilmar Abrego Garcia case, U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis of Maryland is all of us: baffled, frustrated, annoyed, and at times outraged…
God bless Xinis. She loves our country and knows how important rule of law is to continuation of our way of life.
If DOJ is now back to admitting that deporting Abrego Garcia to El Salvador was an error, does that mean that Reuveni gets his job back? And if he doesn’t get it back pronto, he should immediately set up his gofundme so he can hire a good employment lawyer to try. Discovery in that case would be revealing, wouldn’t it?
Judge Xinis has a Deadpool on her shelf. She automatically wins.
Seriously, I don’t understand why she hasn’t already held DOJ lawyers in contempt and, most importantly, jailed them.
We have a constitutional crisis on our hands. The judiciary can’t simply surrender.
… albeit to face trumped-up federal charges in Tennessee.
Shouldn’t that be “Trumped-up” federal charges?
Or, perhaps, “Trump-upped” federal charges?
Looks like another sweep and “papers please” moment. Face it, they don’t have a clue and are just trying to see what shakes out.
If I make a stupid horrible mistake as an employee, and my manager refuses to identify me to upper management, the courts, the client, whoever, then my manager takes the consequences of the action.
My point here is that Pam Bondi needs to be in jail for contempt of court.
I suppose this is how the wannabe dictator thinks that he will win.
SCOTUS did this to all of their colleagues.
They’ve made our judicial branch toothless. Kangaroo Courts now.
This is Los Angeles TODAY with ICE Thugs massing at MacArthur Park and do note the gun mounted on top of the truck
This is coming to YOUR TOWN courtesy of Sicko Stephen Miller and his ICE Thugs!
Trump is a fascist. Most of the Congress, his administration, and his enablers are fascist. The SCOTUS is, contrary to the dictates of the Founding Fathers, pro-unitary executive. The primary enemy of our country is from within. Democracy is in extreme peril.
There’s really no distinction between DHS, DOJ and the White House. In the words of Jason Zengerle in the (increasingly feckless) NYT, it’s all the Stephen Miller show:
“Kristi Noem, the homeland security secretary, who reportedly accompanied Mr. Miller on his visit to ICE headquarters, seems to defer to him. “It’s really Stephen running D.H.S.,” a Trump adviser said. The attorney general, Pam Bondi, is so focused on preparing for and appearing on Fox News that she has essentially ceded control of the Department of Justice to Mr. Miller, making him, according to the conservative legal scholar Edward Whelan, “the de facto attorney general.” And in a White House where the chief of staff, Susie Wiles, is not well versed or terribly interested in policy — “She’s producing a reality TV show every day,” another Trump adviser said, “and it’s pretty amazing, right?” — Mr. Miller is typically the final word.”
Mayor Bass went to MacArthur Park and told the ICE Thugs to get the hell out
Don’t forget that Trump’s thugs threatened to arrest her and Governor Newsom…
In my perfect world, all the DoJ lawyers get in this case get to sit in a cell until they can figure out which one of them wants to admit to lying to a federal judge.
(Well, in my perfect world none of this ever happened, but you all know what I meant)
Have to watch this one… WTF…
With respect, the word “fascist” has been so overused and improperly used and tagged as “something those woke libz always say about everybody”. I suggest something more direct, less World War II vintage. How about “dictator”?
Words are important. That’s why the “right” wing has worked so hard to distort their meanings and demonize them.
The characterization “fascist” being overused? Perhaps. The distinction between “fascist” and “dictator?” In this case, a distinction seemingly without a difference. Words are important. Definitions are important. Describing the current state of the country is important.
Fascism is a far-right, authoritarian, and ultranationalist political ideology and movement characterized by a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, and the forcible suppression of opposition. It typically involves a belief in a natural social hierarchy, subordination of individual interests to the perceived needs of the nation, and strong regimentation of society and the economy. Fascism opposes communism, democracy, liberalism, pluralism, and socialism.
Gotta disagree with you. I generally hate buzzwords and jargon, but “fascist” is the correct term for this regime (a word I prefer to "administration). And this fascist regime is building concentration camps, not detention centers. It’s time to call things what they are.
And, who really cares how the word is characterized by right-wingers? Don’t let them define the terms of engagement.
