The more the people stand up and fight for their choices, the harder they try to destroy it. Hopefully people keep mobilizing in response!

The Missouri Plan has done exactly what it was intended to do. Of course the billionaires who own the Missouri Republican party are against it.

MO has had this system for 84 years to date. And Republicans in MO have controlled the state for 20 years. So for 20 years they didn’t have a problem with our system?

It’s too late baby
Now its too late

They didn’t have the absolute stranglehold on state politics that would make this a worthwhile proposition until about 8 years ago, and no proximate reason to do it until the past year or two when they went apeshit with the nonsense.

On a tangentially related subject, there was someone on the Hive who mentioned knowing Catherine Hanaway when she became AG last year, and who was cautiously optimistic that she wouldn’t be a partisan disaster. Was that you? If so, I’d be interested in hearing your current take on her. And if not, maybe you remember who it was?

Cathy and I knew each other at MIZZOU. And yes I know that people can change/grow-up over the 40 years when I first met her. I’m just surprised at the path she took from when I knew her.

The problem in Missouri is the Republicans are unopposed day to day. Missouri doesn’t have an organized opposition party. That has led Missourians to push for important changes through ballot iniatives. The Republican billionaires don’t want even that amount of opposition so they are trying to further rig the system. They are utterly opposed to democracy.

Want to change things, try party building. Win some school boards, city council seats and work your way up. Missourians can’t look for help outside the state. They will have to do it themselves. Battling Republican corruption is going to be a slog. It can be done. Running a local school system or city is hard but it trains you how to move up the ladder.

Never forget that what you are battling is corruption and in real life corruption isn’t what you see on TV. It starts with some official favoring a friend when awarding a contract because he is a friend. In the beginning it seems innocent or just good practice but in the end everything goes to shit.
