France Sending Riot Police To Southern Region To Enforce Mask-Wearing | Talking Points Memo

Yes ! Several weeks ago, 10 000 mobbed some farmland. Last weekend, elsewhere. Like I have been reading about the Hollywood Hills parties (in Califorinia)… to much money to make … covers the fines. Yes, moronic people everywhere.

Call me naive, but I really don’t think that is the reason. If there is going to be a train strike, or any kind of strike, leave it to the people in Marseille to strike first. Pretty feisty people, less obedient. And the French do love to flaunt the laws. Dated someone from there for several years… which certainly does not make me an expert on Marseille.

As detailed recently, if we’d lock down the US for 6 weeks (except for truly essential workers), we could end this thing. (cf https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/07/opinion/coronavirus-lockdown-unemployment-death.html )

Go figure why we’re not.

Marseilles is also where Jean Marie LePen launched his political career and the National Front. When I visited Marseilles in the mid 80s, the Marseilles taxi cab drivers were notoriously racist towards the North African migrant population and were also notoriously supporters of the National Front movement.

Because we have neither the will nor the apparatus of enforcement to make it happen. We’re just going to muddle through, and the death toll will be somewhere around 1.5 million before we retroactively give a shit.

The south of France votes more far right. A lot of racism over here, too. Le Pen’s daughter has somewhat of a chance for the next presidential elections, unfortunately. But it is her niece that will probably have more chance as she is a bit “further away” from JM Le Pen. All so unfortunate. Social media is really doing it thing over here now, too.

Well, we did it over here in France. We opened up too early, in my opinion. Plus confusing news on how we don’t need to wear a mask outside, children do not pose a problem… heard those reasons ? Now, many, many cities over here are making it obligatory to wear a mask, many schools will be shut. I just think people need to understand that it is economically (and morally) a thing to do. Social distancing and masks and washing hands. Stiff fines, maybe prison (for the rave parties)… but total confinement. Even here in France, I would say that more than the majority would rather wear masks. For weeks, we couldn’t go further than 1 km from where we live. That was tough. Then it was a 100 km. But the covid is on the rise, really, again. Wait until everyone comes back from vacation.

I’m guessing that means Putin told him no Russian troops? At least, not until they try another election first?

This is how I know someone way above my pay grade has a wicked sense of humor.

So now the filthy rich and mighty are going to try to sneak into Europe like poor, dispossessed migrants -only with better boats? I doubt the jet setters will appreciate the irony.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

It’ll be an ebb and flow everywhere until there’s a viable vaccine. 2020 really will be the global “lost year”.
