Fox’s Chris Wallace Unimpressed By WH Defense: ‘I Would Not Be Especially Pleased’ If I Were Trump

Color Fox News host Chris Wallace underwhelmed.

During the Senate’s debate over Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) amendments to subpoena key witnesses and documents in the impeachment trial on Tuesday night, Wallace commented that Trump impeachment lawyers Pat Cipollone and Jay Sekulow were “making a mistake” by simply insisting that President Donald Trump did nothing wrong, with little substance in their arguments.

They proclaim Trump’s innocence and martyrdom because they don’t have a factual argument to make that he did not do the things he did.

Well, I guess this answers the question as to how Fox viewers saw the hearings yesterday.

It’s one thing to defend a guilty client, it’s another to defend one who has publicly confessed to the crime.

“If I were the President watching this, I would not be especially pleased.”

If I were the Majority Leader watching this, I would not be especially pleased.

The slogan for every 2020 Dem Senate campaign is quickly becoming:

“You don’t have to live in Kentucky to vote against Mitch McConnell.”

Donate to his opponent. That’ll help a lot!

I was surprised Fox actually showed the House Managers.

Wallace sees all 53 Republican Senators repeatedly voting to kiss Trump’s ring as a trial?

What were they going to do? Put black bars over them?

I’m actually surprised they opted to broadcast any of this. Woulda been a good day for a special presentation on giraffes.

Tantrum coming in 3…2…1 The President and the Republican party lose again. Midnight Mitch can smirk all he wants, he and his party are going down. ETTD can not be said enough.

Smug and complacent WH lawyers figured the case in the Republican controlled Senate was in the bag…no need to bother preparing a robust defense…;just get it over as quickly as possible. Schiff and his team demonstrated that they did the homework, and are prepared to present a thorough prosecution utilizing all of their alloted time… Maybe that preparation will not be enough to overcome partisanship, but I can easily believe Sen Klobuchar when she said that several of her Republican colleagues were looking down at their shoes as if embarrassed at several points during yesterdays arguments.

Well, when ya got nothin’, there isn’t much to prepare, is there?

Did anyone enjoy as much as I did the pictures of Jim Jordan standing around in shirt sleves yesterday?

“I don’t know why you wouldn’t take the time and every second you have to make an argument on behalf of the President,”

Well, duh! They don’t have an argument on behalf of the President. There is no defense for his behavior.

It’s Fox, so he gets graded on a curve.

He’s not wrong, but they don’t have a factual argument to make, so all they can resort to is Trumpian bluster and bullshit. And since Trump no doubt saw this, I look forward to him demoting the current legal team and putting in Judge Jeanine and America’s favorite lawyer/dentist Orly Taitz as lead counsels. They couldn’t do any worse.

With no facts to support their case, Trump’s lawyers are also constrained by the comportment rules in an impeachment trial. Unlike Nunes, Jordan, et. al., they’re not allowed the same level of yelling and arm-waving histrionics. Trump will be pissed that they had to use their inside voices, and Faux will lose hours of red meat footage.

If I were Trump, I’d be so mad I’d say, ‘‘the hell with national security! Pompeo, Mulvaney, Barr, get your asses up to Capitol Hill and testify. Read the transcript into the trial record. IT WAS A PERFECT CALL!’’

[a puppy can dream, right?]
