A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo.
Delaware Superior Court Judge Eric M. Davis rejected a bid by Fox News’ parent company, Fox Corp., to toss out Dominion Voting Systems’ defamation lawsuit on Tuesday.
Greitens Insists He Was Just Having A Laugh With Violent Campaign Ad
This is always the default position with the GQP when they do this stuff… oh, you have no sense of humor - it’s a joke, can’t you see?
No, damnit, I can’t see. And I won’t see. And I don’t know why it is that no one will shut this crap down before someone dies from it.
Why, oh, why, does this stuff seem to have no impact on sane people that this person should be nowhere near the levers of power, but should more reasonably sequestered in a room with no windows?
Right out of the gate, I am posting something OT. Judge James Dannenberg resigned from the Supreme Court Bar with a letter to John Roberts. This letter blazes with vitriol over Roberts’ guidance of the court. This guidance compels Dannenberg to voice how he has lost faith in this Supreme Court, even reckoning the Roberts legacy to be on track to match that of Justice Melville Fuller whose court brought us the villainous decision in the case of Plessy v. Ferguson. It’s worth a read for both its style and substance.
To wit:
Without trying to write a law review article, I believe that the Court majority, under your leadership, has become little more than a result-oriented extension of the right wing of the Republican Party, as vetted by the Federalist Society. Yes, politics has always been a factor in the Court’s history, but not to today’s extent. Even routine rules of statutory construction get subverted or ignored to achieve transparently political goals. The rationales of “textualism” and “originalism” are mere fig leaves masking right wing political goals; sheer casuistry.
On the other hand, if it was a $1.6 Billion suit, that might be a bit of a big deal. Of course, TBF, the plaintiff can fill in almost any number on the face of a lawsuit. And that will have little influence on what the judge or jury will award them, should they prevail.
Sadly, even when the missing “bn” is added, it’s still not that big a deal for Faux and the foul Murdochs. I would wish for a “tr” in there…that might make them sit up and take notice.
Attorney General Merrick Garland on Tuesday took an unannounced trip to Ukraine, where he met with Ukrainian Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova, according to the Justice Department.
Donald Trump could shoot a small child on 5th Avenue in Mariupol and get away with it.
White nationalists used to tend toward this kind of strategy as well in the past . . . now, though, their approach seems to be less joking, more in earnest.
