Fox News Settles With Seth Rich’s Parents Years After Pushing Conspiracy Theory | Talking Points Memo

More than four years after the tragic death of their son Seth Rich — and after Fox News falsely suggested that he was part of a seedy story involving WikiLeaks — Rich’s parents have settled a lawsuit with the cable network.

Too bad we get denied a good Hannity deposition. But it’s a small price to pay toward closure for the family.

Tucker Carlson will have to now go on a tear about how Fox buckled and Hillary has the murder weapon locked in a vault in the basement of Comet Ping Pong.

This is good, but it bugs me that Alex Jones got off much easier. Doesn’t seem right.

Comet PingPong: Which BTW, doesn’t even HAVE a basement.

They’re confused. It’s in the basement of Asteroid Badminton.

Calumniate a dead crime victim?

Sure. Why not?

C’mon!

We all know Fox settled ONLY because of threats from Sec. Clinton, who – in cahoots with George Soros, Tom Hanks, and shape-shifting reptoids from Zeta Reticuli – created the Uranium One cutout to hide ACORN’s private emails to Antifa which document the international trade in Adrenochrome established to fund the Benghazi cover-up which was staged to kill witnesses to the murder of Vince Foster who knew too much about insider trading of cattle futures at the Mena airport after she gave birth to the alien baby.

This settlement isn’t fooling anyone!

While I’m pleased that this is finally settled and the Rich’s can move ahead with their lives I don’t think there is any amount of money that might soothe them.

Perhaps Faux could televise a public flogging of Trucker Carlson. And toss in Shammity for grins.

In other words: Bearing false witness. This will go completely unnoticed by the Christian Right.

My thoughts are that it would be a fair settlement if the heads of Carlson, Hannity, Ingraham, etc. were displayed on pikes outside of the Fux’s HQ’s for all to see what happens to lying vermin.

I think for loved ones like this there’s a measure of solace in knowing the money forked over is a warning, because they know it might spare others the pain they felt. Their own can’t be unfelt, but maybe this can give it some meaning. :pensive:

For those wondering, mine lost — my family voted for him, donated to him, and are now being thrown under the bus by him.

I think we’re watching the downfall of FOX News and the mainstreaming of right wing conspiracy theories. Obviously, right wing lunatic media outlets will continue, but they won’t achieve the sort of widespread acceptance FOX had at their peak, or not anytime soon anyway.

Networks like Newsmax will only attract those already looking for nutjob conspiracy theories. They won’t entice the sane into their cult as effectively as FOX did.

So basically, Fox litigated an attempt to dismiss the case before discovery could begin, lost that attempt on appeal, and settled for (probably mid-) seven figures to avoid discovery. The lawyers get their 40%, the Riches pay a bunch of taxes on their share, and they probably net less than $1.5 million at the end of the day. Meanwhile, the fabulist “reporter” who decided to slander the deceased finally gets released from Fox’s witness protection program, by which I mean he finally starts to get collecting unemployment.

Totally. It fills me with absolute rage when I think of the hell these poor people and other families, particularly the Sandy Hook survivors, have been put through by these ghouls. Losing a child is horrific enough, but to have your child’s name sullied, or their existence and death denied, must be excruciating. There is just no bottom to Republican cruelty nor punishment worthy enough of the pain they’ve inflicted.

Unless the money came directly from Hannity and Dobbs this is of limited use. They have no incentive to stop the lying when Fox will pick up the legal tab for their evil bullshit.

I’m sure that Fox has learned a lesson and the next four years will be conspiracy free.

Reminds of how one of the mothers of the four Kent State kids murdered by the Ohio National Guard got hate mail smeared in feces, because at the time the majority view was “they deserved it.”

Reich Wingers are garbage people.

A lot of people worked hard to stage that fake investigation into Seth Rich’s murder, with the express purpose of covering up the Russian hack. That Butowski guy is one weird character. GOP-connected financial manager with a press pass who swears he just wanted to “help” Rich’s parents. I bet this settlement will make it a lot harder to get to the bottom of that treasonous conspiracy.
