During a segment on Fox’s “Outnumbered” Wednesday afternoon
“I read this New York Times article closely because that is a big charge. And I hate to say it, but it’s The New York Times. They have reported stuff like this before that felt like a bombshell, and then it’s turned out not to be true,” Francis said, without clarifying the bombshells she was referring to. “So I don’t know in reading … you need someone to corroborate this. I didn’t see that, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.”
Co-host Emily Compagno agreed with Francis’ sentiment, saying that Francis was “illustrating a pattern that keeps repeating itself, which is word of a bombshell and then we wait with bated breath while the details don’t necessarily support it.”
I pity the writer who had to listen to this dreck in order to write about it.
FOX news really needs to be called out for out and out lying. NRP had on a republican member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee who was IN THE ROOM when Vindman testified. He confirmed that their were three portions redacted and that Vindman sought to correct the transcript. He just would not confirm or discuss the content of those omissions, but also did not deny the reports.
These fucking people at Fox, it’s like a masterclass in projection.
I mean, seriously, I’m no fan of the Times these days, but Fox News is pretty much the last group of people who should be complaining about reporting ‘bombshell’ stories that aren’t true.
If I’m remembering correctly (and I’m distracted with work, so it’s possible), the NYT has a history of reporting stuff and then having to retract or modify it later. I have no agreement with Fox News and would much rather hear less from them than TPM reports, but I don’t believe the statement is altogether wrong. NYT has done this to themselves.
Sigh. I can’t wait until we have a nominee who will then get as much attention/airtime as the Moron. Fox should be called out - every goddamned day. Adam Schiff or Pelosi are the ones to do it, I suppose, but they’re pretty busy.
OMG! That’s right! There’s a repeating pattern in news, where something is reported, but then things change and that thing is no longer true. Like, take the Hindenburg disaster. It was such a big deal and they were all like “Oh, the Humanity!” And then the next day, there was no airship exploding! So news, is like, true, but then it turns out to be so not true!
This is one of those “forest for the trees” things
the information that the Times had Vindman telling the committee wasn’t terribly significant (that Trump had mentioned that there are ‘tapes of Biden’ (most likely a reference of Biden bragging at some conference about how he’d gotten rid of Slotkin), and that Zelenskyy said something about Busrisma.
So in that sense, there was no bombshell reported.
The bombshell, however, was that Vindman reported that relevant (if minor) infomation had been excluded from the summaries.
Yes, and when it comes to bombshells, the ones we exploded in Iraq were unfortunately only too real. Hundreds of thousands were slaughtered and obviously for no “good” reason.
So I know very well what you mean. The NYT has much to be ashamed about.
But still … to hear these Fox people babbling as if yesterday’s testimony was not yesterday’s testimony, well … let’s just say it’s more than I need.
But it’s why I say so often, don’t make it easy for the Right to call everyone else out by doing something stupid. I’m definitely not denying that Faux, generally speaking, omits or twists the reality, but the NYT has had its own problems in the past in their efforts to be first with a story.
If I gave a rip about anything faux news had to say, I’d watch it. Why does TPM think this is important? I’ve pretty much had my limit of winger news here lately.
