What would make sense would be to only turn the candidates’ mikes on when they are given specific uninterrupted times to speak (e.g., the 2 min segments). Frankly, this should govern virtually the entire debate. That way, we’d actually have a chance at hearing the substance of the candidate’s ideas.

That way you guarantee a back and forth. Frankly, it’s not clear to me why this has not been the norm for political debates.
And of course, with Dump, this format would expose the fact that he has no real ideas, only juvenile slogans, insults and lies to communicate.
I read this myself yesterday I think and my thought was this: there is a huge difference between joining a group of like-minded folks, waving your guns around and talking big and actually shooting another American.
