Next Tuesday’s primaries pose the next big test for how voting will work in the pandemic. Of the several states that have a primary scheduled for next week, some have made drastic changes to their election procedures so that voters don’t have to cast their ballots in person and can avoid contracting or spreading COVID-19. Other states already allowed residents to vote absentee without giving an excuse, but are still seeing a big increase in the practice during the outbreak.
It’s important to note that in Pennsylvania, we can sign up for mail-in voting, as opposed to absentee voting. I did this yesterday for the upcoming primary.
The signup for both is similar, but for absentee voting you have to give a reason, and if it’s medical, a doctor’s contact information. But by following the procedure for mail-in voting, no such reason is necessary. They do require identification, in the form of a driver’s license number, for one.
So, that’s something for TPM to examine. At least be careful of using the term “absentee” voting for everything. There are procedural and likely important legal distinctions.
Republicans: VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE. If you vote by mail, your vote will be stolen. It will be changed to vote for that Black Man again. So DON’T Get an absentee ballot. Wait, and then only go vote on election day, and remember it is your duty to vote, even if it kills you.
Democrats: Immediately send in for an absentee ballot, then return it quickly, and double check to see that it is received (and don’t tell any republicans you are doing this, say you are going to go stand in line to see your ballot is not stolen or changed)
Seems to me mail in or on line voting is one hell of a lot safer than standing in line and then inhabiting a voting booth someone else slobbered all over, But I do want that my vote will be counted. One way or another trump is going down.
Republicans took polling sites away from minorities to rob them of their vote. But the post office will give them the right to vote back. I will pay the postage if I have to, I will drive them to the mail box if I have to, but the people have to vote. Please god, THEY HAVE TO VOTE
Unless the virus rampant, or the weather is bad, or you’re just having a bad day.
No need to put yourself out on my account
Seriously, it’s weird that Trump is so adamant about pushing his fellow GOP politicians to get on the wrong side of something the public so obviously favors. It’s like a suicide pact.
