Founder Of News Site Covering Tennessee Gun Protests Says Shots Fired At His Home

Justin Kanew, the founder of “The Tennessee Holler” — a progressive news site— says his home was shot at on Saturday night just hours after he posted footage of his coverage of a protest against lax gun laws in the state. Some Democrats in the state legislature participated in similar protests Thursday and state Republican leadership is moving to expel them today.

Eff these disingenuous cretins with their Jan. 6 comparisons. I’d hold out hope that they’ll be voted out of office, but it’s Tennessee. Unbelievable the lack of accountability for so many of these red state parasites.

I’ll just throw this idea out there:

The First Amendment prohibits the Tennessee House of Representatives from taking adverse action against these three legislators for exercising their core right to free speech.

Discuss.

Under the cover of darkness. Real hero.

Total lack of caring by the GOP on what happens to children or freedom of speech.
Their rights are not our rights.

Oh you silly billy, the right of free speech is only afforded to the members of the majority. s/

Did the Republicans in the TN legislature help their fellow Dems bar the doors? You know to prevent the mob from attacking them? Did any of the students or parents shit on the floor?

Trump has really ushered in the Humpty Dumpty Era. People willing to perch precariously on their walls, self-righteously believing themselves unassailable and able to define words to mean whatever they want them to mean. They don’t see the great fall in the their future or the impending snicker-snack!

And we’ll be left to try to pick up the pieces.

The thing is, that doesn’t cover people who get uppity in Tennessee. I believe it’s actually called “The Uppity Exception.”

“On Saturday night, someone targeted our home by shooting several bullets into our house while my family was sleeping,” Kanew said in a Wednesday statement.

“That’s a bad look.”

It’s a Trump look and it is what Jesus would do so it is righteous. :worried:

It would be interesting to see the Roberts/Alito Court twist itself into something unrecognizable trying to uphold Tenn. House.
Time to proceed boldly.

Because the violent and abusive people in society must have the right to frighten and shoot anyone they don’t like.

Nothing says gun control is needed more loudly than people shooting into a house where children are sleeping.

I was eating breakfast with a good friend this morning. He is a lifelong Republican but he hates Trump - still, between sports and sobriety and a few other topics we manage to stay away from politics most of the time. However, the TN shooting came up and he is one of those NRA members who believes in background checks, banning assault rifles, etc. Then he said nothing could be done because if the Republicans proposed anything the Democrats would always go against it simply because a Republican proposed it. I then told him the Republicans had been filibustering any gun control legislation for decades and that he had the entire thing completely backwards. He said he believed that both sides were equally guilty of not moving forward. I knew there was nothing I could say, no article or video I could produce, no fact checking that could be done that would dissuade him from this comforting belief.

I will love this man always, but once again it just brought home that he is dealing with an entirely different set of facts that cannot be argued or reasoned away. We have to simply outnumber them - FOX, Rush and all of the RW enablers have basically rendered rational reality based discussion obsolete.
