Well, at least points for consistency in the anti-science hires in this administration. This guy Loeb will fit right in with RFK Jr., Dr. Oz and the rest. Every bright light in the sky will now be proof of alien visitors.

I think that’s missing the real explanation. He probably has presbyopia (farsightedness) like almost everyone at his age (I do too), and he’s too vain to wear reading glasses.
There are a few photos of him wearing glasses while reading through the windows of the Beast limousine. That’s probably why he was riffing on the artwork instead of reading the text in that clip. He can obviously read from teleprompters showing large text when giving a speech. He just can’t see anything clearly when it’s too close.

We all see the huge systemic corruption and destruction of this administration- but as you describe having to make the choice about whether to express your first amendment rights is such a clear and awful reminder that there is such a huge personal impact on individuals in ways we don’t often think about.
I hope your treatment goes as smoothly and that the side effects are as mimimal as possible. I’m not a cancer survivor myself, but my husband has been through testicular cancer, 3 kinds of skin cancers and is currently being treated for a recurrence of prostate cancer. So I have had a close up view. Virtual hug to you and your family/friends who will be supporting you.

Thing is, Loeb used to be a really respected astrophysicist. His work on black holes was exemplary, and he headed up the department at Harvard.
Then he seems to have gone a little insane… and yet there are definitely people on these boards, who’ve defended him and claimed he’s someone to trust on scientific matters in just the last 2 years.

Thanks. Best of luck in the next few months as well. I hope the latest procedure brings you relief. For me, it hit hard in January - stenosis/sciatica at the L4/L5. I had previously been doing PT, then moved to drugs, then an epidural which was only 8 weeks relief. It’s been bad recently and having the surgery was no question.
If you don’t mind, a couple of questions:
- What was your base condition and how long were you dealing with it? sounds like it was through-out your L2-L5.
- How soon did you realize your laminoforaminotomy didn’t work? Was it weeks or right away? Did it feel you had setbacks along the way?
- Would you have done anything different before or after the procedure?

At points 3i/Atlas had a forward tail, obviously hitting the brakes as it entered our system.
So, as 3i/Atlas entered the Sun’s area of stronger gravity, and heated up, it began cracking and outgassing. A lot of these particles were larger than what the solar wind typically blows off of comets, so instead of being blown backwards, they continued in the direction of travel, accelerated by the force of outgassing. And we were able to identify this by the fact that UCLA astronomers were able to observe the outgassing on an interval of just under 8h, as the comet tumbled. Static rate of tumble, producing static interval of outgassing. Not the kind of irregularly intermittent deceleration burn indicative of technology.
The pilots were, um, probably exchanging long protein strings and got distracted.

In the greater scheme of things, I am so lucky. Have a comfortable home to nest in, a great supportive spouse, spouse’s generous tech company health benefits (no, don’t protest company’s actions right now, dear!), a community of helpful friends & neighbors.
This is a wonderful country when the assholes are not in charge!

- I had polio as a 5 yr old in 1954. As a teen the effects of the virus messed up my spine during that teen growth we experience
- I knew the next day the procedure had no worked for me.
- The result was a more radical approach involving small metal posts secured to vertibrae by screws. This is to result in the fusion of L4, 3 and 2 into one bone. The sciatic pain is mostly gone but now I have strong lower back pain and posture issues.
As the character Rosanne Roseanna Dana said on Saturday Night Live.. " if it’s not one thing it’s something else."⁹
