Former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick (D) is considering jumping into the 2020 presidential race strongly enough that he called former Vice President Joe Biden last week to discuss his hypothetical bid.
I think I remember an article in the New Yorker months ago profiling Deval Patrick in the context of the presidential election. I think (if I recall) the conclusion of that article was that he wouldnāt run because his spouse was strongly against the idea. Isnāt one of the misgivings about him that heās a Wall St. insider?
Remind me. Who was clamoring for him to join the already crowded field? An incisive voice that would bring folks together would be great, but who thinks he can play that role - other than him? Same question for Bloomberg.
I donāt know much about Patrick, but I do share concerns about the current set of candidates.
Warren is the only one who really grabs people, IMO, but I really think sheās boxed herself into some positions which will hurt her in the general.
I thought Biden entered the race partly to slow down Sanders, but heās not impressing.
I do like the way Warren makes billionaires cry. Nobody is helping her candidacy more than whiny billionaires.
heās motivated by a fear that none of the candidates currently in the race have sufficiently energized a big enough faction to beat President Donald Trump.
So he called Biden to discuss that? That would not be my first call.
heās motivated by a fear that none of the candidates currently in the race have sufficiently energized a big enough faction to beat President Donald Trump.
ā¦and his solution to that is potentially to add himself as another candidate, splitting everyoneās support further. Brilliant!
Patrick was a better-than-average Governor. I had left my state job before he was elected, but all my friends back at the agency loved working under him. He provided steady leadership during the Marathon bombings. He is a good campaigner who beat our current Governor Charlie Baker at the same time that Scott Brown won his Senate seat.
That said @darcy@steviedee111 are right. He makes Biden look like Teddy Roosevelt when it comes to his obsequious in the service of corporate greed. He trustwashed Ameriquest and is currently trustwashing Mitt Romneyās private equity firm Bain Capital.
