Waiting for DOJ to respond to Bannon’s contempt. Very frustrating, unless the plan is to to a bulk charging for all those who will ignore the subpoenas.
For those of us of “a certain age”, (as the saying goes), the parallels to the Watergate Hearings are interesting, and this is beginning to look like it could become some pretty compelling political theater. The GOP tried hard to kill this before we got here, but oooooh, look, the committee is beginning to line up some potentially spectacular witnesses… just in time for the Mid-term elections. I recall something about Watergate damaging the Republican hold on the Senate and the House for several election cycles.

This is a fascinating question. Are there rules about which active-duty members of the armed forces can be called upon to testify before Congress? Or under what circumstances?

They have to testify if the President orders it. Otherwise, you get the boot. Further, the Congress can withhold promotion, etc in rank. I’m not sure what the procedure is for the Congress itself “de-commissioning” and officer. Anyone know if and how Congress goes about doing that—is it possible?
I think they’ve delayed things because the US District Attorney for DC was sworn in just this Friday, fuck you very much Moscow Mitch.

Remember, kids. When all is said and done, you want to be the one with the pin, not the one with the live grenade.
My mental image would be that McCarthy pulls the pin, throws it at Nancy, she takes her badminton racket and lobs it right back at him. So he has the pin and now the live grenade is in his court too.
Eastman will swamp the questioners with legalese and Flynn will be defiant. No reason for them not to be with the current do nothing approach of DOJ.
DoJ doesn’t have any such approach.
Biden’s nominee for USA for DC just got confirmed on the 28th of October—after being nominated in July.
Main Justice has nothing to do with the referrals for contempt of Congress. Those referrals go to the USA DC (by law) and he is required (by law) to present them to a grand jury, whose actions are not public.
You should know by now that the US legal system is glacial in its pace in the best of times.
So what’s all the yak about Garland then? Why are folks in a tizzy about DOJ under Garland not taking up the Bannon thing swiftly?
