Former Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) donated a whopping $100 to the campaign of the Arizona Democrat running for reelection against controversial ex-Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
He was widely criticized for voting to approve the appointment of Justice Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court after stalling a Senate Judiciary Committee vote on Kavanaugh’s confirmation to allow for an FBI [so-called and meaningless] investigation into allegations of sexual assault.
Eh, I’m not gonna get on a guy for a small donation early. If it looks like the guy’s safe in the job, great, it’s a show of support. If the polling shows a need for more help later, he’s got the option of giving more. Still a long way to go, even in local elections.
Classic Flake. It almost shows courage. It probably will boost sales for his book by more than $100 from the free press coverage. Somehow his moral stand is never enough to make a difference and usually ends up with giving him fame and money.
That’s the ticket. Jeff sits on the fence but with both legs swung to one side, rather than merely straddling. This gives him the option of seeming ready to jump down onto the side he’s currently facing or flipping over backwards to the side he was facing before. He’s become quite masterful at it.
Flake did the same thing in December 2017 to comment on Roy Moore (see below). While I agree with many others on this page that something’s just missing for Flake’s appreciation of the situation, I’m with you that I appreciate that gestures.
