Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci was disinvited from the Palm Beach County GOP’s annual fundraising event after he criticized President Donald Trump’s racist attacks against four congresswomen.

I still haven’t totally come to grok the fact that the Republican Party has become an actual factual cult of personality. They used to worship unwholesome things – tax cuts, overseas adventurism, “family values” – but I don’t think even Reagan was feted in this way.
I have to remind myself of this fact regularly. It is something new to American politics.

I’m with you. Every day I have to remind myself that this is the case because it’s simply unfathomable that one of our two parties has become a cult. In a parliamentary system, it would be the far right party. I also just read a new study that says regular Fox News watchers know less real news than people who don’t even pay attention to the news - and that it’s the number one cable news show. Those two facts pretty much sum it up.
Poor Scaramucci. He picked the wrong party. Won’t get invited anywhere else now either.

Getting disinvited by the GOP from an event should at least get you a plaque or something.
Trump says racist stuff and owns it, and benefits from the support of people who love he’s a racist who says racist stuff.
But calling Trump a racist is out of bounds? I think we are ten days away from the GOP abandoning the flimsy cover of illusion here. It doesn’t help them. They’ll soon just attack in-party critics as anti-white and weak.

The fact that it is something new is what is screwing up the media and press as well as the rest of us. If he was not involved in the political life blood of the country, he and his followers would be just another article in the news. But everyone is still playing by the rules they know, which is why he skates along. They keep trying to cover him as if he is really a politician and a functional president.
Pelosi moving to calling him out on his racist remarks and stepping away from the parliamentarian rules was a good step to changing the status quo. There may be grand mechanisms involved in Republican world, but they are ultimately ruled by the cult. When Trump casts off someone they are not simply shunned and forgotten, there is a growing risk that one day they might literally be stoned. Someone posted a Jim Jones cartoon this morning, it was appropriate. (Which I cannot find at the moment)
And the ‘free speech’ party that hates snowflakes proves themselves once again to be hypocrites on both.
Certainly it should put paid to the notion that there’s any sort of coherent party-wide strategery here. They’re all strapped to the back of a galloping idiot and they don’t know where it’s going or how to guide it. Reactionaries reacting to other reactionaries without a plan or a clue.
