Five Points On The Federal Officers In Portland — And, Maybe Soon, A City Near You | Talking Points Memo

The bit about not meeting with the chief of police, but meeting with the head of the police union was interesting. They’re going to the people who will support them even if it’s not part of the elected government. That really is an invasion.

I recall that the GOP was big on states rights. Not so much I guess.

I suspect any unrest they find will be imported for the occasion.

It’s very quiet here. No way those agents are going to Chatham and Englewood to deal with gangs.

I guess it’s too hot to send them to Houston or New Orleans.

They need to be asked about this and put on the record immediately. Especially Rand “I’m a Libertarian” Paul.

But it’s OK if it happens on 5th Avenue.

They are defending “property.” Rand will be a strong supporter.

I saw that. I always knew there were a lot of authoritarian bullies among the Wherever’s Finest, but I didn’t know it was as bad as it obviously is. But I know if you really want to you can change the culture. If that involves a whole lot of firing of asses so be it. If you can’t be a poe-lice in a multicultural democracy then find another job.

DHS clearly needs to be disbanded and some serious house-cleaning done. Seems to be the gravitational focal point of all of the wanna-be Stasi.

I do find it interesting that the legitimate law-enforcement folks like the FBI or U.S. Marshals are nowhere to be found. Almost like they told Barr that he could shove that request somewhere very dark and smelly.

I live in Portland, and it’s clear that the military occupation of 3 small blocks of downtown is already backfiring. More protestors have been motivated to come out at night, and not just the rock throwers, but peaceful people, a group of moms even, who know a crisis moment in his country when they see one. There’s simply no way this city was “under siege” or “in crisis” before the troops were sent in; my fear is that it soon will be, thanks to Bunker Boy’s need for a Reichstag Fire moment.

This is O/T, but I was in my local healthy grocery store yesterday getting vegetables when I saw these two young guys wearing masks that said something like “Masks are as clueless as the Governor.” I wanted to tell them how stupid they looked, especially since the two looked like a couple to me and they were shopping for healthy food, but I didn’t. Dumbfucks.

Reminds of this clip from yesterday in Portland:

Cannot for the life of me figure why somebody hasn’t just opened the limo door for Trump and, instead of taking him to the plane, gone on to get some treatment.

Aren’t the deaths justification?

This is no longer a “protocol-of-the-presidency” issue. We will be at WWII U.S. Combat Deaths numbers if we even survive what we can see coming just this day alone. No moral (or any other kind) courage.

It would not surprise to learn that the a Chicago cops are all cheering the Feds on. They hate the city, and everyone in it but each other.

The big ones-- NYPD, Chicago, all those with nice long histories-- no chance of reform. They need revolutionary change, not evolutionary. As shown above, the Chicago PD happily beating and gassing protesters in 1968. Fast-forward to the Floyd protests, and the only difference in their treatment of protesters is the video quality.

You’re not changing that by just swapping out a few, or even many, personnel. You’ve got to kill the entire culture, and that requires a whole fresh start.

Though Portland Police Chief Chuck Lovell didn’t meet with Wolf when the acting DHS secretary came to town, police union president Daryl Turner did.

Yet another reason police unions need to be shitcanned.

These are the shit-for-brains we’re dealing with. This is the Trumper Judge on the Houston In-Person GOP Convention case.

The district judge in charge of the Houston republican convention case has issued his written opinion in support of his (now stayed) injunction. He says the risk of a convention is like a grocery store and analogizes the situation to Nuremburg. 1/ https://drive.google.com/file/d/1c9oIuwQTTm6_0LUnup5gnDNjTbSWoGkk/view?usp=sharing

The GOP is being run and staffed by lunatics, misogynists, racists, ne’er-do-wells, mountebanks, war criminals, scofflaws and morons.

Navy vet, and he went there to talk to them about why they were violating the same oaths he swore.

Takes guts to do that, I am beyond anger at seeing that video. In what world are they justified to beat a man who is standing there, hands at his side, talking to them?

I can’t remember what show I was listening to yesterday on MSNBC, but there was someone who said he used to be with the FBI in Portland, and that there are protests there all the time.

Thanks for the perspective. And please stay safe.
